Yes, Hades DO Expand!

Not always, but they do. I got these two early yesterday. Both head shots with the Kalibrgun Cricket Carbine Mini in .22 @ 920fps. One was a pass through, the other I recovered.

Honestly looking more like BONE IMPACT damage than expansion.

Excellent point. 👍🏼

Really seems like we'd need some controlled testing on semi-live* quarry.

*[live, as in recently alive, and now dead]

Something like this:

(1) Kill shot

(2) Prop up the dead quarry in front of a pellet catcher (cardboard box with bunched up plastic bags, or some towels)

(3) Shot at selected angles and shot placements

(4) Evaluate wound cavity and measure pellet expansion

Once covid-19 blows over in Peru I hope to do some of that.... 😄

Been using the .22 caliber Hades pesting grackles and chipmunks all summer and comparing them to the regular JSB 15.89 domed pellets. Halfway through the tin (with few misses :) ) I haven't recovered a pellet but it is easy to see that more energy to being transfered to the pest and the exit wound is much larger with the Hades. Even with body hits the amount of tissue damage implies that the Hades pellets are expanding well.

On a good shot I don't see any difference between the regular domed pellets and the Hades - dead is dead. On a marginal shot I think that the additional damage done by the Hades might result in a quicker dispatch.

If the Hades were the same price as the regular JSBs I might switch over to them for all my shooting, until then I will reserve them for pesting. I am still debating if I will use the Hades for hunting - I eat what I hunt and will often keep the hide for fly tying. .. the Hades can be a bit "messy".

Just my experience with them.

Honestly looking more like BONE IMPACT damage than expansion .

As you well know shot placement is key and that you did without question. A dome would have been just as lethal.

That doesn’t just look like BONE IMPACT, it was bone impact, as evidenced by the picture provided.

Now, is that expansion? Most definitely. Would it have expanded on flesh? I’m not sure, I have seen these Hades run the gamut from very little deformation like this .177 Hades out of my Sub 12fpe HW95.

To this! Bone or no bone, Hades expand. As noted above, by @vana2.

They also produce a noticeably more devastating traumatic impact on flesh as “soft” as an orange, as noted by @americanairgunner in this video

But frankly, some people, including myself, took exception to the “convenient” shot placement with the Hades off to the side. So I took that to task and conducted my own experiment only to see that regardless of shot placement, his results were plausible albeit perhaps a bit more pronounced. YMMV.
