X-Rings will they work in Air guns

I used to do a lot of underwater video and photography. In the various housings we used x rings where used as well as o rings. If I remember correctly the X rings held the grease better and it essentially had 4 sealing surfaces and was more reliable than orings. I was wondering if any one has ever successfully used x rings on a PCP air rifle.

The gen 1 FX Impact used one to seal the valve rod. They subsequently changed it to an o-ring in later versions. Not sure why they changed but it seems to hold air just fine in mine.

FX used a quad ring in the Impact until recently when they changed it to a thicker O-ring. Crosman used or uses them in some of their guns as well. So, sure they werq but are harder to come by, for most of us, especially in the myriad of sizes and types needed for our airguns.

Crosman uses quad rings in some of their guns. I think the old 140 and 1400 and some others used them on the exhaust valves.

I’m thinking that they may actually be a better solution in some cases. If i see I’m having repeat problems with a particular O-rings i may substitute a xring and see if that resolves the issue. Since they are more costly that a O-rings i wonder if manufacturers stay away from them to maximize the profit on each gun.
