Wrong mag/ammo resulted in bad first shot but shocking results!

I was in the living room drinking some water and saw this young male yearling decided to chillax on my oak tree. The squirrel fever kicked in the high gear! Grabbed my DreamTac Compact that I lowered the scope and zeroed yesterday and my mag of 177 hades(so I thought). Wife and kids are out so I cracked open the glass patio door and put the center dot just above its head and squeezed the trigger. Heard a solid thud but to my surprise I missed the brain, thankfully it was holding its head at the trunk of the tree. Feeling horrible I quickly put 2 more shots into it to end its suffering. A little perplexed on how I missed so bad, even though these 14 yard shots aren't easy but still.

Went to retrieved the body and found all 3 pellets under the pelt and realized my error. Instead of the mag with 10.3g Hades I used the mag with 13g monster, they fly much slower on the same setting in the mid 500fps so the POI was much lower. Then where I found the pellets shocked me! First pellet remained in the head but it got absolutely crushed, talk about expansion! WOW! Second and third pellets were found in the groin and base of the tail, the entry were at the shoulder and right below the ear! They cut through the entire body length!!! And the leg and shoulder were absolutely shattered!!! HOLY COW!!! At such low speed I could not believe just how much penetration and damage the 13 grain pellets at 550 fps have! That just blew my mind!!!
Red circles are entries and yellow circle is where I found one of the pellets.

Here is the squirrel with my DTC for size reference, it was young but very good size and healthy.

The left is the first pellet in the head and 2 that went through the length of the body.

And of course I forgot to press the record button again thanks to squirrel fever!😅

You technically blew his mind! Nice shooting and interesting results. I'm getting more into the heavy slow approach, much quieter impacts. Keeps the attention down since this time of year everyone is out and about.

Now you mention it the impact sounds were quieter. Hades make a distinctive almost slap sound, the monster made a more dull thud sound. 🤔

Still could not believe the expansion and the penetration achieved by the really slow but heavy pellet. I might just have accidentally found my new squirrel snipe tune. The only down side is I had my gun tuned to shoot the monster at 690 fps for skunks/bigger critters and Hades @690 for squirrels at the same zero. Might have to think over my pesting strategy/setup. Also 690fps is virtually flat from 16-35 yards.

Maybe I can tune the monster to shoot at 666FPS for everything. 🤔😈😈

I tested some 40gr .22 slugs from H&N..
👀Holy hammers!
The embarrassing part is…..I did label my mags but obviously I didn’t read it right. Doh! Maybe I’ll try color coding next time. 🤔
I got my carm mags different colors🤔but they are also different sizes😅 My oem mags....one is shiny new...one is....useddd so to speak(you can glance at them and tell, the clear plastic back on the new one is...clear🤣

WOW!!! 40 grain 22 H&N slugs are just insane!!!

I also have different mags in different colors but they are for calibers too. 😅 BUT if I use Monster for all my pesting needs except for maybe rats then it would make it simpler and I can cut down to just 3 mags from 4 (crosman, heavy for my crown and monster). This could work! 🤔

Even a simple mark/or stripe of sorts that makes them different looking by a glance works. When I "break in" my other oem mag it's going to look identical to the other; I'll end up marking the backside(side I see when loading mag)🤣🤙
