Wow Powder burners are loud!

I was upstate this weekend visiting a college for my son. I had some down time so I did a little shooting with the Condor SS on my backyard range. I also brought up my PB rifle to sight in for hunting season. They just changed the regulations in my county allowing centerfire rifles for big game. Usually just slug shotguns and bow. Im very excited. Until I shot it. Man was that loud. lol. I haven't shot anything but a .22 rimfire in a while. I didn't realize how quiet my airgun was till then. It is funny though. The older I get the more I only enjoy shooting my airguns. I don't even bring the PB 's up with me much anymore. My airguns are relatively quiet, very accurate and fun to shoot. I will still hunt big game with them because we can't use airguns for big game in NY yet. But if they did let us I may never see them again. (until the Zombie apocalypse) of course. Anybody else feel this way? 
 
Yup, I have a safe full of very nice PB's from a 17HMR to 22-250's to a 30-06 with a lot in between calibers not to mention the shotguns. The air guns have taken over my shooting needs in a very additive way. I despise going to the gun range due to the noise, idiots and the percussion felt from the big magnum guns. If I do go out to the range to sight in something it will be on my week day off and early in the morning and hopefully avoiding the one guy that's there every stinking day that really likes to visit... a lot!! lol

Me, too. My PBs have been in the safe for over a year now, since I got the PCP bug. An hour at the range and then 1-2 hours at home to tear down and clean my AR-15 and my 911. Now any cleaning is a matter of minutes. I don't hunt big game, so my PCPs will do most everything else I need. I have a 50 yard range in my back yard and I shoot there and my neighbors usually don't notice. I am old enough (70) that I have been thinking about clearing out my PBs, but there is always the threat of the zombies one day, so I guess I'll keep a few.

Yup. It must be about 6 months since I shot a PB. If it wasn't for that Spur of the moment" decision, It would look more like a year or more since I shot PB last. Everything just seemed to line up for that scenario to take place. Politics, Timing, lack of ammo availability, cost, moving, time involved, safety, cleaning requirements, life in general... But, primarily my interest quickly moved to airguns and the convenience of being able to shoot in the back yard is what's really causing the dust to settle thick on the PB's.

"Springrrrr"As much as I love the air guns, I can shoot them every day in the yard, as a pistol carry permit holder, it is essential that I stay on the game. So I get to the range at least once a week and burn some powder.

I agree, got to stay proficient with the pistols. As for PB rifles, I lost interest some time ago. Most ranges around here only 100yrds, so it gets boring at that distances when they only allow you to shoot from a bench.

Airguns put the fun back in shooting.

Yes Critta, 223. I have an FN15 that I tried for a year to find a round to shoot MOA with no luck, always had 2-3 inch fliers. Several members of my range are CMP shooters and recommend WOA or CLE. I called CLE and ordered their service rifle upper with a Krieger 1/7.7 and had it at my door in 2 days. Great people and wonderful upper.

The Daystates are terrific for backyard practice and hole in hole at 25 yards.

Powder burners have a place, but I don't go to that place anymore. 100 yards is a long shot for me, and with a very quiet air rifle, it's a challenge. I like shooting in the back yard when no one can hear me.

​Last trip to the range, I sat next to a guy that probably shot $50 to $100 in ammo. I shot more than I wanted to for $6 including air. His shells kept bouncing off my back (didn't mind, just was one of those things at the range), I didn't even have shells, so no problem!

​Yes, he could chase those little plastic targets all over the hill side, and I could barely reach them, but that's OK, I still enjoyed the day!

​Went to another range a couple weeks ago, and the person next to me was shooting something from WWII. (no, really, it was a 70 year old gun) and it was so loud, and as he put it, kicked like a mule, he only lasted about 10 rounds. I had hearing on and it hurt me!

​All aspects of the sport have value to whoever is shooting, but for me personally, I'll echo statements above, as I get older, I like air rifles more and more. No recoil. No noise. Accurate, and a challenge at 50 to 100 yards!
