As with many things, a conscientious user precludes the problem. I was a kid in the days of the Mattel Fanner 50. Heck, kids wore'em to school. In high school I took a shotgun to school as part of a business class presentation! It's a different world today. The good ol' days weren't necessarily that great, but we sure didn't have the propensity for violence that is prevalent today. Which gets me back to my point. Toy or air guns that look like handguns, being easy both to obtain and conceal, have been the catalyst for tragic events, and that worries me. But, your point is well taken, and proper training is essential.Yes kids have been shot for this. As I'm sure some adults. And I bet most of them had no idea about anything to do with firearms safety. Or cared about it.
In today's climate its probably smart not to be brandishing and airgun in public. Good change something unwanted might happen.
