Would anybody be interested in a monthly online air rifle silhouette match?

I have noticed that air rifle silhouette is losing its popularity as an organized event. There are no clubs or ranges anywhere near me that offer it. I have been in contact with a couple clubs that are quite a distance away and even they say that there is little interest from their membership. I happen to really enjoy shooting those little steel animals and I like the challenge of standing offhand shooting. I have read online that perhaps that challenge is the reason for the lack of interest in silhouette. Maybe shooters don't want a sport where it is difficult to perform well. Standing and shooting free-hand is quite a challenge and might never be mastered. Since I still enjoy the challenge and since there are no real matches near me, I began to wonder if there are enough of us interested to try and put on a monthly match/meet/challenge of some sort. I could design a paper target with the silhouettes and share it. Then we could all shoot during our free time and post results at the end of each month. It really doesn't even have to be a competition. It could be a way to track your own progress month to month. I also know that not everyone has access to 45 yards for official silhouette distances. If there is enough interest I'm sure I could come up with a compromise game that would allow most of us to participate. First though, I'd want to ask how many of you would even be interested enough to join in. It's not a big time commitment, just shoot at least once each month and upload a photo of your target. Knowing that you will be sharing your target will be a fun addition to just shooting alone in your backyard. It will also encourage you to shoot more and I know that it is improving my standing shooting skills. If you would like to try something like this just let me know and if enough are interested I'll start looking into the details of how to make it happen. Thanks for reading this far.:)

Up until a couple of months ago we had the 1st Sunday of every month air rile/pistol silhouette matches at Bay Point, CA.
It was canceled by the VP of air operations because it conflicted with his schedule.
We had a new election of officers and hoped that program would be re-newed.
It wasn’t.
What they gave us was a joint small bore (.22lr) and air rifle/pistol silhouette match.
Which means the air rifle/pistol enthusiasts will now have to wear ear protection.
I am not enthused about this.
I cannot speak for everyone.

I will not expand on that question, other than saying some of the scores were sometimes questionable.
I remember a similar instance when I was shooting FT with a person who thought they were world class.
He was not happy with the score as noted so I asked him what score would make him happy?
I changed it and never shot with him again!
I am 80 years of age. I shoot offhand as much as I can because I know soon, I will be horizontal for a very long time.
I post some of my targets here.
Most are used to light the BBQ.
In 2014 I was the #2 HFT springer guy in my local club.
I was 69 that year.
In 2015, I was #1.
70 then..
I haven’t shot worth a dam since but, I am out there, competition for no one but having a great time.
I hope you get someone shooting with you online.
I will watch it but will not shoot.
Good luck.

It's sad when a friendly competition turns into someone's ego trip.

Those types should take up golf

Then they would really have something to whine about 😁 I’m way better shooting off hand than I am at golf! I might be interested if you can setup something that can be shot indoors at 10 meters or so. I probably would not be shooting till winter though. I will probably be busy moving this fall

Well so far you're the only one to say that you're interested so it doesn't look too promising, So you would be limited to ten meters? I did assume that different members would have various limitations on their available distance to shoot. That might be a good reason to set something up where we all compete against ourselves rather than each other. The goal would be to make a noted improvement each month in our own skills. The monthly match and uploading of targets would just be there to encourage participation and keep us all shooting. If you know that others are waiting to see your results, and to see who improved (or not) it will add a little incentive to try our best. I believe it was Frank in Fairfield that recently posted a silhouette target that was meant to shoot at ten meters so we could use something like that for those who need it. I know for a fact that my skill in offhand shooting are getting better the more I shoot. I'm not saying I'm great; but I am better than I was a year ago.

I’m limited to indoor shooting because of where I live. I was shooting a lot of 10 meter targets off hand earlier in the year in my basement. see the thread what paper target did you shoot today. 10 meters off hand is quite challenging. That distance would cover most of us that can even shoot on our property.

I must be dumb, but I don't get how the heck you can just trust photographs of targets with pellet/slug holes in them being sent over the internet.

Since there aren't really any prizes I would not worry about anyone cheating. The idea is really more about getting out and shooting and sharing our collective results and hopefully seeing an improvement in one's own skills from month to month.

Hi Kenny. I'm a pessimist. You have a good point about there not being any prize.
