I have noticed that air rifle silhouette is losing its popularity as an organized event. There are no clubs or ranges anywhere near me that offer it. I have been in contact with a couple clubs that are quite a distance away and even they say that there is little interest from their membership. I happen to really enjoy shooting those little steel animals and I like the challenge of standing offhand shooting. I have read online that perhaps that challenge is the reason for the lack of interest in silhouette. Maybe shooters don't want a sport where it is difficult to perform well. Standing and shooting free-hand is quite a challenge and might never be mastered. Since I still enjoy the challenge and since there are no real matches near me, I began to wonder if there are enough of us interested to try and put on a monthly match/meet/challenge of some sort. I could design a paper target with the silhouettes and share it. Then we could all shoot during our free time and post results at the end of each month. It really doesn't even have to be a competition. It could be a way to track your own progress month to month. I also know that not everyone has access to 45 yards for official silhouette distances. If there is enough interest I'm sure I could come up with a compromise game that would allow most of us to participate. First though, I'd want to ask how many of you would even be interested enough to join in. It's not a big time commitment, just shoot at least once each month and upload a photo of your target. Knowing that you will be sharing your target will be a fun addition to just shooting alone in your backyard. It will also encourage you to shoot more and I know that it is improving my standing shooting skills. If you would like to try something like this just let me know and if enough are interested I'll start looking into the details of how to make it happen. Thanks for reading this far.
