Airforce Worst PCP ever and I am ashamed that I fibbed.

AirForce Talon SS in .22, worst PCP in my experience. Yes, I'm ashamed with increasing continuing guilt because my first PCP was actually a Talon SS in .22. That blasted thing would not keep zero. The adjustment spring wheel didn't help either. The bottle, couldn't keep consistent on which way to remove. The set screws for the barrel etc where a horrible balancing act to align. Regardless, I'm absolutely embarrassed and time to come clean. I still will claim my first true PCP is the Taipan Veteran 1. That SOB will absolutely slam a Talon SS into the ground, no doubts in my mind. My apologies., yeah, I lied what my first PCP was. I actually trash canned that rifle into the landfill as it was so bad. Cheers, Norm

The basis of my purchase then was the adjustability and USA made. Gosh, I was so disappointed. I wouldn't take one if offered for free. Perhaps they improved, but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. I'd love to support USA made ... but none of my springers or PCPs are USA made. RAW has my attention but ... can't resist foreign influences. CZ barrels rock my boat to the core ... consistently.

An Airforce Talon was also my very first PCP. I bought it from Talon Tunes. It was customized and had a really nice moderator that Tony built. It was my first pcp rifle and I learned a lot while I owned it. I agree that it wasn’t very consistent and precision wasn’t its best feature. I’m glad that I owned it for a while as it guided me into this wonderful hobby. After a while I sold it and bought an Air Arms S410 and that was a major upgrade.

My experience with the AirForce platform, both condor and talon, has been the exact opposite. First one was an older .22 TalonSS I got off Craigslist for $100. Tophat was leaking. Fixed that in 10 minutes. It was decent out to 40-45 yards out back with the 12 inch barrel. Put in a 18 inch barrel and it was nuts on.

Then I continued to upgrade. Huben Power Max-ATH regulator, high flow tophat, heavy spring, heavy hammer, CF tank.

200bar, 1100FPS with H&N Barracuda Match. Then I cranked it back down to 1800psi and 850FPS.

I now have a .25 Condor and .22 TalonSS upgraded to .25 24 inch. After upgrades and adding big plenums if I crank the reg pressure to 200bar the H&N Barracuda go supersonic. I run them at about 1750psi for 850FPS.

All 3 are some of my most accurate and consistent rifles. Easiest platform to maintain and to upgrade.

Well amigo I personally appreciate you clearing your conscience ..

I too went down the AF rabbit hole and I swear that SOB wore my a$$ out.. I consider myself to be an above average tuner, i wrk on all of my guns myself, and I am a machinest by trade as most of you who know me are aware,
Mercifully I stopped the bleeding before I got too deep in the turd, I know the "true. blue" AF cult spend a Ton of money to end up with a gun that should sell for abot $200.00 ...

You and the others have listed the majority of the issues withthis platform so no need to add my misery list.

Bottom line is it amazes me they are still in business with the Now Ludacris pricing on this outdated, no shootin', line of guns,,,

I had them when I started 10 years ago, n they really suck at that time valves didn't make any sence, sold them but keep 2 of the old frames , because I don’t mind single shot. Then purchase Eastern European guns wich are my favorite looking to buy 2 Epic ONE soon.. but the last few years AF valve had evolved to a really powerful more tunable parts i took my old frames out and I'm having a blast shooting really heavy lead accurately without having to buy 3k+ guns ones external regulator is on , I dont see any difference between my .22 condor n my tuned Uragan , except the mag wich is really don't care, because I don't shoot a lot . That condor will shoot. 22 GTO to 40gr bt accurately without any problem, change the valve n the hammer and the Same gun will shoot. 224 - 60gr bullets. Me personally I don't change my old gun for any of the new stuff.

@PasadenaMike - where are you to come to AFs defense?

My first PCP was a .25 Condor SS. Was a great hunting PCP but a horrible plinking PCP. Best I could do was 2 inch groups at 50 yards for about ten shots per fill. I hand pumped that damn rifle for two months. I got really lucky and sold it for only a $100 loss. Figured that was a great education and never looked back.

Maybe a RAW one day.

i had one of the first ones from pyramid and a 28 gr. eun gen Korian 22 cal pellett at about i think around 650 700 fps would destroy crows and was pretty quiet back when these things were mostly pretty loud , i think tom gaylord was involved at the time , i kinda liked mine ! had to use in a trade for a flooring heat welding tool kit back when the country was tanking from recession , but i still like the gun , good for hunting , light n powerful

I've got a .177 Talon SS that hasn't been too bad. Cheap and easy to work on. It puts holes in cans. Trigger sucks!
On the other hand I've got a RAW HM1000x .25 that is like a fine watch to shoot. It's not fragile, the action is even smoother than that Katran you just got and the trigger is even better than my Taipan. Got mine used from the classifieds and I highly recommend trying one if you get the chance.

The problem for many is that the had the bright idea to buy them new .. i have never purchased one new , i either buy frames directly from AF or cheap guns here like at $400 shipped.. how could I pay $800 for a new condor , almost the same price of a used taipan, nop never going to happen, about value is the as any other gun, half of the purchase price, is usually what they go for, still less of a loss compared to higher end guns, the more expensive the gun is the more you lose.. I have seen $3800 guns go for $1,700 now that's a heavy hit in the nuts 😳.
