Woodshed Ratting and Sweet Revenge

I set up my hide near the woodshed by the carport for my wife's Outback. Reason being the wiring on the Outback has Soy Based insulation according the service tech, the car was in for a scheduled maintenance and the passenger side fog lamp was in-op. Needless to say Wife was not overly pleased and I got the "Look" that we all know so well....I buy you all the pellets and rifles you require and still you let your rat bastard buddies chew on my car !!! I felt the pressure of the moment and all I could think to say was they got my tractor wires too, sorry honey, I will try harder.

If I had been thinking clearly, I should of said " they have learned to avoid my current equipment", that Pard 008 LRF night vision scope would fix this problem for sure.

It was zero dark thirty and I was on station, ready to apply some rodent revenge. It was a beautiful night, all of the night sounds let me know the Horned Owl, the Grey Fox and a Screech Owl were going to get a snack or laugh at my lack of ratting skill.

It was not a long wait and I saw the glowing eyes I was searching for. Rifle loaded, breathing controlled, rifle comfortably resting on the tripod and finger poised at the trigger. A few more seconds and the target would smell the sardine I had aged just for this occasion and pause just long enough for the old man to squeeze the trigger.

A lethal hit, a small rat but a rat just the same. Right shoulder entrance, through the length of the body (5 inches) and the exit out just under the tail. The JSB King .25 pellet applied by the Marauder with the ATN X Sight II 3-14 @ 18 yards ....Revenge Awarded, snack provided. I forgot to put the trail cam out to see what predator buddy of mine got the rat.

Good luck with your pesting, stay healthy and safe

Mr. BackStop,

I enjoy your pesting posts and most excellent photos.

The rifle and scope works perfect....only thing it is way too heavy for me and freehand shooting. I am an old guy with a bad shoulder and rely on my adjustable tripod to steady things up.

Good luck with your pesting, stay healthy and safe

I always use a rest. My Fortitude is fairly light, but I know I can't shoot accurately off-hand. Of course, my rests include a step ladder with a small couch cushion and a plastic city garbage can also using a small couch cushion. Maybe one day I'll buy a good tripod, but for now my "make do" methods work well for me!

Thanks for the reply!
