Wolverine R

My brand spanking new Wolverine R in. 22 is ready for collection from my rdf this Saturday. For the guys already shooting one of these rifles, what are your thoughts and any tips on set up and pellet preference? Wishing away the next few days now till I get my hands on the rifle and can sneak away from the family for some quality plinking.

Clean the barrel, 1st thing! I’d say this for any brand of rifle, new or used.

Get JSB 25g redesigns. 

Mines been incredible out of the box with no tuning. I’d say, give it a chance to fully break in before fiddling with anything, except the trigger if desired.

Will get some pictures once all set up and received on Saturday. I have some of the new jsbs sitting around so will be trying them together with the usual suspects ie AA fields and the stock jsb range with some Bisley mags thrown in for good measure. Thanks for the reminder to clean the barrel, easy to forget in all the excitement of a new gun. Should be a step up from my old Mark one rapid, especially in the looks department. ...

It is a hard step to force yourself to do first. But, I’ve seen the benefits first hand as well long term. It’s totally worth it!

I’ve talked with the owner of Daystate about their stocks. They are all hand picked for beauty and character.

Did you get the Wolverine R standard or HP version? I have the HP 22 cal.

The standard 30flb version. The HP looks amazing but is more gun than I need. I have a large garden overrun with American grey squirrels, pest species in Scotland so fair game under the general licence. Shotguns, even my moderated 410, get the horses jumpy but the pfffft of airgun doesn't even register, so the new Wolverine is to target tree rats out to around 50 to 60 yards.

Nice one my R Type is one of my go to guns amazing straight out of the box mine likes JSBs.

Straight outta the box, my Wolverine R stacks 18.1 JSB’s. It’s an awesome rifle. No tuning or fiddling should be necessary.

if yours is standard version, maybe jsb monsters redesigned will be too heavy, try jsb 18.13 and 15.9gr.... maybe H&N barracuda in all sub calibers (5.50-5.51-5.52-5.53)

Hey Tom as above would you shoot the 25g JSB in a 30FT gun? my FAC (England) Redwolf arrives tomorrow (USA standard power not HP).

I asked the same question about using the 25g in my Crown but no one replied (sob!).

A .22 HP in England takes longer to get than it does in the USA, primarily because no one wants over 12FT here due to the licensing effort!

Did the standard Wolverine R come with a moderator? Is the quite? I would like to get one in 177 but can't tell from the webpages if they have the moderator or don't

Mine is in 177. I don't know about the 22's but the 177 has a choked barrel. That may need more cleaning than a straight barrel.

I found the trigger pretty good, but not as good as the ones on the TX200 and Hw97 I have. A polish job and replacement of a spring changed all that.

A moderator make it a very very quiet gun. Medium noise without one.

i think standard versions doesnt comes with moderator (dont need it), i have the HP version and it comes standard with huggett and it works very good.... mine is in .22 and its giving me 43FPE and it sounds and feels like a 15fpe rifle

My R came from AOA with a full Huggett Shroud. It is VERY quiet!!! It’s a .22 cal non-HP version. Shoots right at 880 with 18.1 JSB’s for a ton of shots.

Thanks for all the comments, looks like jsb 18 should be the first pellets to try. Will post some pictures Sat afternoon Gmt once I collect it. Got a spare hawke vantage 6x24 to stick on it for now but got my eyes on an airmax once funds allow. Always exciting waiting for a new gun, feel like a kid at Christmas

I'd try them and see how you and your gun likes them. They really are performing great.

I tried the old Monsters in the .22FX Crown, accuraccy was great at 25 yards but I could only get just over 700FPS with them, I will try them further out!

I bought mine last month from Ken Hicks. He put a tune on it so maybe not quite stock. He said it liked JSB 15.89's best. At 35yds in my yard 15.89's and 18.1's both really drilled it. The 15.89's come out at 885 fps for reference. I'm not going to touch the gun it shoots so sweet. If you want quiet get the Huggett. You are going to love that gun.
