Wind shooting, 11.5fpe, 45 yards (video)

A roughly dime sized circle(a bit smaller maybe? ⭕️) drawn on cardboard. 5 shots in tricky wind, seated, using JSB 7.9 Express out of my 97k .177 with Paul Short Ti tune.

First shot is at 1:42. I originally intended to shoot from 33 yards but my position was hidden from view so I stretched it out to 45 yards.

Always humbling, always FUN! What’s next? 🤓😎

Very good shooting. I’m impressed with that group in wind that strong. I do believe that I need a springer. Thanks for sharing the video.

davelarson,

Thanks man, hard to tell but I was somewhat protected from the wind coming over the slope, in a "dead spot" so to speak. The two shots that went wide left were good shots, and when they broke I didn't notice any activity near me that would warrant holding off an additional hashmark or more (3 vs 2 at 40X IIRC).

After shooting that 5 shot group, I shot a 10 shot group. I'll try and find that pic and post it.

As a devoted springer evangelist, I agree with you: yes, you need a springer. 😉🙌👍

Nice shooting JP! I’ve been shooting my 13fpe 97 a lot lately and the wind can be (and usually is) a real deal breaker. If the wind remains steady 😂 and you can use similar holdover/ hold-off for a few shots you’ve got a chance for some decent groups. But not here, oh no not in Mn. It starts it stops it swerls and changes directions from shot to shot. Still fun though - love them springers. Uj

Nice shooting Johnny.

Here is my wind shooting session at 55 yards with 7 mph winds from a field target sitting position with a bum bag.

30 shots - 21 hits - 9 misses. 1st shot was all the way to the left.

Stay safe and healthy,

Leo

Nice shooting Leo, high hit rate for sure. I’ve got a full size KZ (1.5”) target coming from Paul Porch to complement my solo target (1/2” Paul Porch FT), will be cool to stretch it out a bit.

I know what you mean. I’m in the mountains and the wind here has an attitude.

Round 2: 50 yard lockdown group challenge, 14.5 mph recorded gusts

50 yards off the bumbag, the plan is to shoot 6 shots at each 1.25” circle (traced a V-Mach moly jar, for all you springer evangelists out there🤓). Going to take 2 sighters, last time I used this rifle was for the last video (7.9 JSB at 45 yards), so I’ll adjust elevation on the fly😉

Glorious day, check it out:

I edited down the 27 minute long video because unfortunately the shots going through the Crown Royal box (Don’t judge 🤣) aren’t easily visible. Will post the “after group report” soon. I need to think of a better way to record this kind of stuff so shots on paper can be seen, but to also include the background/depth of range. Any suggestions?

1st group after 2 sighters. (Sighters shot in bottom center of box). Over compensated for 3 shots, under compensated/ninja gust blown for one, two in the sweet spot ⭕😉

2nd group. It’s ugly. Wide left or wide right. One inside.

3rd try’s a charm. 3 hit the circle, one wide right and 2 wide left. Reminded me of the matches I shot in Temecula, but winds were much, much stronger.

It is what it is. Glad I tried the 8.4s for this session. Gotta stay at it. Timing wind induced body rocking is a huge part. Working on a faster, controlled trigger pull. Being one with the wind. Onwards and upwards!

Great video. Very sexy gun! The blue laminate has been my favorite since the first time I saw one a long time ago. What is the other black one in the back?

Thanks 270windude. I think it's quite sexy also, and will look even better once its back in its FT stock (currently getting worked on).

Which "other black one in the back" are you referring to? I think in the video only my "Bluesy" appears🤔

Nice shooting, you must really trust your skills and equipment, that phone looked pretty scared behind the target

Hello Windmill01

The phone was indeed behind the target but deemed to be "out of the danger zone". Regarding trust of skills and equipment, let's just say that given the conditions I wasn't completely sure if I'd be able to hit the targets, but I WAS confident that I wouldn't send a stray wild shot into my phone😉

BTW, hope all is well in Australia. I've travelled through NT, Sydney and Melbourne. Loved every minute!

We are going pretty well here in OZ but the lock down has put a different air over people. We are pretty lucky as we live in the bush and I’m able to shoot when I want. The Queensland government has shut down gun shops to the average shooter, only farmers and shooters with special approval for pest control and veterinary staff are allowed to buy supplies I believe. I order my pellets on line from Victoria and they get delivered to our Post Office Box so there is no drama.

I’ve never been to Sydney or Melbourne, Queensland has everything I want but we do go to the Territory to fish. Takes 3 days of ten hour driving but it’s worth it. Great fishing but you have to be respectful to the crocodiles especially when cast netting for live bait.
