Will NSA 17.5Gr slugs in a TalonSS with 12” choked LW barrel work?

Title says all. I recently bought a used TalonSS and shoots great groups with crossman 14gr hollow points, but they do not buck the wind well and drop velocity very fast. They shoot about 860fps or so at the 10 power setting, and was very intrigued when I saw lightweight slugs with a great BC and was wondering if NSA 17.5gr slugs would be usable for ranges up to 100yds. also, myTalonSS is completely stock.

How did the 20gr slugs do? It sounds like if I want to use slugs I might need a 24” barrel after all. Also, do the hades pellets do well long range? I heard they’re nasty when you hit pests with them.

20.2 fit loose and grouped poorly, not sure a longer barrel alone is going to get you there. Never stretched much farther than 50 yards with the talon but they work well at 75 in my Dreamline.

Well thanks for the info. Looks like I’ll have to use something else or maybe the FX hybrids if I’m going to try to shoot long range.

PlinkForFun,

I have a chocked LW and I'm holding out till NSA gets their new diameter in — 0.216.

Like your gun, mine does not make a ton of power, and the .217 and .218's haven't been that great at 100y.

I'm suspecting that .216 will fit our chocked LW barrels better — and NSA will give us 4(!) slugs that weigh less than the unnecessarily heavy 25 grainer from JSB.

I hear that NSA will have the .216 diameter ready within a couple of months.

👍🏼 To me it's worth the wait. The price is the best of all the manufacturers I have surveyed, the quality is very high, US product, just need to find one that groups well enough for my purposes. 😊

We have .216 already but need to work out some internal issues worked out to get them to market. We also have .2165 and .2175 that will be out in about 2 months. In addition we have another 22 caliber slug coming with a different nose profile. There will be a huge selection, all priced similar to what is there now, coming by the end of the year. Lots of options. I also just drew the .20 caliber slug and will be sending that to the die maker next week and be ready this fall if testing goes well.

I bought mine from a guy who was moving to NY. It was an old one and it was awesome, but I didn’t like how little power this gun had so I ended up selling it recently. I did try the .2165s, and they actually didn’t fit super snug in mine (I’m guessing LW may have had different crown and barrel diameters or something like that back when the guy who’s moving to NY bought it.) They shot barely under an inch at 30yds but any farther and it was a shotgun. I just bought a .25 cal FX Dreamline tactical with a bottle from Utah Airguns and I’m probably going to end up buying a slug liner later on and try more slugs out.
