WILDCAT SYNTHETIC STOCK MATERIAL

Does anyone know if the synthetic stock of the MkI Wildcat is a solid material or is it a coating on some substrate? I want to cut some of the forend off to make room for a tube clamp but I don't know if, in doing so I would reveal the substrate.

I have drilled through to mount pic rail for bipod its solid all the way through (2 wildcats 1 bobcat)

It is substrate, but it is rigid and porous. They mount rails to the same material on other models. Just thread something like a wood screw directly into it. That's how fx does it from factory.... BUT I have also seen them strip out.

Thanks...My real concern is that when I cut the end of the stock off, will that expose some material that is radically different than the exterior synthetic material.

Which tube clamp did you order? Is this for a compact wildcat? Smwengineering in the UK has a clamp for the compacts, one that encompasses the fill probe dust shield. It’s more of a clamp for the air tube and a “rest” for the barrel shroud. Compacts have a short enough barrel shroud one wouldn’t need to worry about any barrel droop or flex on them.

Try avoiding cutting your stock. It won’t look the same as the outside with the soft touch coating, and it’ll bug you over time that you did that. Not to mention resale value.

Thanks for talking me off the ledge...all this started because I thought I wanted to buy another Wildcat, but a Mk III in .30 cal. I was concerned about the longer barrel and POI change because I tend to be less than gentle with my guns...I asked around about where to find a barrel band and a kind fellow member offered to sell me a SMW band for the cost of shipping, so I did. Then I changed my mind and decided to go for an Impact. Well, the SMW barrel band doesn't work with my original MkI Wildcat without a plenum extension or mods to the stock...so now here I am. At least it wasn't an expensive endeavor. Too much time on my hands and none spent on research!

Yes mine stripped out really easy bought a magpul pic rail from Utah came with wood screws first time out with a sling it was falling off
