Wildcat mk3 bt compact .22

What long range efficiency are you guys seeing. Out to 120 yards for example.
70 yards is as far as I can shoot on paper in my backyard, however when shooting 23 grain slugs, I can pop starlings and squirrels in the tops of pecan trees out at 115 yards like it's a video game. In fact, I practice and double check strelok data by shooting slugs at individual pecans in the tops of trees at 100-115 yards. So, yeah it's quite efficient with slugs out to 115 yards in my experience. I don't shoot pellets at paper any further than 50 yards in my yard. I have on still days taken and made successful shots on doves and starlings with pellets at or around the 100 yards.

Looking seriously at upgrading from a Dreamline to Wildcat III compact 22, curious if your gun is stock and the set up/tune you use for pellets and slugs? Considering the FX tungsten hammer, Huma dual port and FX slug power kit… sure these help but not sure when they are needed. Wish there was a cheap sheet for tunes and when upgrades are required. Thanks
The FX wildcat sniper version is still shorter than the dream line.

I can tell you from personal experience that you definitely DO NOT need the tungsten hammer in a compact wildcat. You would just be wasting a LOT of air and doing more wear and tear. When shooting pellets out of my compact, I use the lightest hammer they have (comes with the compact) and my reg is set at 85 bar. Shooting hades at 910fps. When shooting slugs, I put on a 600mm barrel, my reg is at 140 and I use the 8mm hammer and pin probe that comes with the slug power kit. That tune has me shooting 23 grain slugs at 1020 fps like a laser beam. The dual port that comes standard on the FX barrel is all you need. No need to put the huma port on.

50 meters is about as far as I can safely shoot in my back yard but I've made kills at 85 and 115 meters. I can tell you for a fact that a higher BC projectile(aka slugs) is a game changer for reaching out there and touching them.

One can almost use a BC rating as gauge for how far a projectile will be effective and accurate in the wind. When I shot .22 16 grain Hades pellets at 900 fps, my max effective range was around 60-70 meters because they only have .04 BC, max. Now I'm shooting 22 grain FX Hybrid's at 900+ fps with a .08 BC(which is on the lower side for slugs) and I almost never hold for wind unless it's beyond 60-70 meters and really gusting. I wish I would have used slugs sooner!

Accuracy wise the FX Hybrid's are very good at 50 meters but I'm still playing with velocities to see what they like best. Sub-moa 5 shot groups are common...

Oh, did I mention the terminal performance? These things are absolute carnage on birds!

The gun is loud with shroud alone, without a mod. But the stock hollow mod, and the shroud works wellI can’t imagine what a hollow moderator sounded like
How would you rate the report of the compact without additional add ons?

I use the Wildcat for pest control at the farm because it is super light and easy to carry while walking acres of land. The .25 cal will take down anything I encounter and the Wildcat has excellent accuracy out to 100 yards. Since I don’t shoot slugs and have not had to tune the MK2 there was no reason to upgrade to the M3 or BT.

So I shoot 17gr nsa at 985 fps with a 500mm barrel.
Last pesting session I was hitting starlings pretty consistently at 125y….probably 2-3mph wind.

Once I got the winds figured out…it was a matter of getting the glass on target.

What's your tune for that, if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks, appreciate the notes. Pretty excited to get the power increase in the compact size. Think I’m going to get the FX pocket chrono for testing…

So, I never touched my front reg. Can only assume it’s 180bar from factory.
Back reg it 130bar. The gun has a heavier hammer than oem. But it’s not necessary, it was was installed, so I tuned with it. Because it has the heavier hammer, my hammer screw is almost all the way in.
And I have the gun tuned to the knee of the power curve.

If I back of the wheel a couple click I get a decent tune for jsb 18’s

If you want my honest opinion, sharing tunes doesn’t really work. You need to find an accuracy node for your gun…then u fine tune the hammer and valve for that power level. That how I tune all pcp. I basically ignore the power wheel.

But there is the benefit of quickly detuning for lighter pellets. But even so, it wouldn’t be a balanced tune.

So I have mine setup with 500mm .22 and a tanto. Also have a 580 bottle.
I have a balanced tune for 17nsa at 985fps.
Can easily back of the hammer for 18gr jsb
How's the report of that setup? My lady just ordered the 600mm barrel with a 580cc bottle and the Tanto. I'd expect her performance to be very much like yours but capable of a tad more velocity with the longer barrel.

I do not know, maybe someone else will chime in. All my guns are moderated. My .22 cal BT wears a Sumo, because that's what I had laying around. My .30 BT wears a Hugget Snipe. Of course, it will really depend on the tune. On a high power setting without a moderator, I'm sure it will bark. I do know there are guys shooting 500mm Mavericks and Impacts that would likely be as loud un-moderated.
I have a WC MK3 BT Compact in .22 cal and currently use a Donny Tatsu in 30 cal. It doesn't bark. I think most any moderator will work fine.

I know 400 is a lot of money for a tuning system but the system on the m3 is just superior to the Maverick/wildcat. So much faster and easier. On the other hand my Maverick doesn’t suffer from the sitting for awhile stiction that my and seems most m3’s suffer from. After sitting for the night a couple dry fires on the m3 is a must to avoid low velocities. I know there is a fix for it but for 2k you shouldn’t have too. I guess pick your poison 🤷‍♂️

I agree in part. However, I do think there is a benefit of sharing tunes in that it gives another person a good baseline to work off of when developing their own.
Exactly…it is going to get you really close and is super convenient for the owner that doesn’t know where to really start.
