Wildcat and JSB 18.13... finally

You mates get excited about shooting time? I get so little trigger time due to my work schedule, it's a crying shame. So I'm fired up last night, thinking finally a couple days off, the yard work is finished and I'm going to be at the bench early in the morning if the rain holds off. I actually woke up at 0500 with anticipation, what's up with that? See, you guys(and gals) are used to the accuracy on these guns but for me, it's still newish and oh so mind boggling.

Except for the JSB 18.13's. When I received my WC MK2, it came with a smooth twist and also a ST-X (type A) which I installed right off the bat. I never even shot the smooth twist, just removed the liner, cleaned the ST-X, installed it and off I went. Tested some different pellets and weights, some great, some good, some decent but the one's I wanted to shoot well didn't... JSB 18.13's. I could barely get 1" groups at 50yd.

Now I got a new scope two days prior, Athlon Midas TAC 6-24x50 which I mounted yesterday but still needed to zero. So when I woke up, I decided to stick that smooth twist liner back in and try the 18gr jsb, what have I got to lose, right? Can't be any worse. So first target, 50yd off the bipod, yeah I know... looks like someone trying to get through a revolving door with water skis on. Still making adjustments on the top row and trying to get used to the new scope. Man, this HD glass is badass but holy crap, that floating dot is tiny. If that dot is .04 mrad, what would that size be in inches at 50yd. I tried to do the math and came up with .072" but that can't be right. Regardless, zee dot, she be vedy tiny.

But by the second target sheet, adjustments are final and I'm getting used to the reticle. First bullseye is 6 shots, the rest are 8 each. Rain is on the way so wind picked up on second row, the 18gr are struggling but still...

I think I can live with it. Suffice to say, the smooth twist will be staying in the WC for a while. I have 6 tins of the JSB 18.13 to run through. A bit surprising to me that the smooth twist liner out performs the STX. An amusing footnote: sound travels well on a cloudy, overcast morning at 0730hrs. The Wildcat is quiet with the Tatsu but those pellets were smacking the target with authority. While on the second sheet was when I noticed my next door neighbor about 100yd away, dressed in his Sunday finest, sitting on his back porch, drinking his coffee... watching intently. Probably eyeballing the chrono and thinking, "This guy is taking this stuff a bit too seriously". lol, cheers.

bbstacker, yeah feels good. I was beginning to wonder if all those 18gr would find a home since the Regal shoots tighter with the 16gr.

John, there's nothing I'd like better than to try 100yds but I've no location to attempt. I used to walk down the end of my road and shoot the AR on the bottom land where they dredge sand out of the creek. But about 5 years back, the owner leased it out to some Hmong farmers so I lost out on a nice shooting range. My backyard slopes down and then up after a mulch pile at 50yd, sort of a natural backstop. I ranged it and think I can push it to 75yd at the top of the incline but I need a straw bale or two. Might have to be selective about what time I shoot also but I plan to give it a try.

mister12ax7, thanks. The gun will definitely shoot. Probably more accurate than me. I had my day in the past but it's like the old motorcycle saying, "the older I get, the faster I was".

I'm not rightly sure on the shot count as I usually just shoot 6 mags and refill. I fill to 230bar on my tank gauge and after 48 shots, the WC gauge reads 140 although actually 150... I think the fx gauge reads 10bar low. Supposedly the .22 will go 60 shots so perhaps I'll load another 2 mags next time and see how far it'll go. cheers

chocan. Congratulation on the Wildcat. I personally believe they are the best gun FX makes. Mine came off the first pallet that AOA received, so one of the first in the US. Purchased a case of the 18 grain JSB's. 30 tins. They have long since been shot. The accuracy amazed me the first day I shot it and it amazes me now. It's never had a problem of any sort. As for the smooth twist barrels. I have ST and X barrels in other calibers and really can't say one holds an advantage over the other. They are equally accurate once tuned to their sweet spot. Their accuracy exceeds my ability. Good luck. Sylvan
