Why not FX Maverick in .35

Just cause you have a larger plenum doesnt mean the gun will be more powerful. The maverick is weaker than the impact. The impact was made to be a powerhouse. The maverick was a combine of the impact and the wildcat. Even for the impact it was pushing its limit to even shoot 35 cal, thats why they have to use a 800mm just to get up to speed. So no way a wildcat or a maverick can do 35 cal with enough speed to be consider good. If you want 35 cal or larger get a gun that will do it such as the air force. Those kind of gun are made for big bore.

I have had the same question as the O.P. Especially when FX themselves describe the Maverick as "A rifle purpose built from the ground up with heavier pellet and slug shooting in mind." And it is spec'd to be only 8 ft-lbs (6%) less powerful than an Impact.

I personally wonder whether FX is truly interested in big bore guns, or whether the Impact .35 was just more of an internal design exercise to them to see if they could make a big bore.

I think that this statement is right on. It is reasonably well accepted (and is my personal experience based on ownership of an M3 in .35 cal) that the Impact is a larger bore pellet rifle. As such it is not a 'true' big bore air rifle, which would typically be designed to shoot heavy slugs with power and accuracy. The Impact .35 kind of sits alone in a region between 'standard' air rifles and big bore air rifles. Probably because it is at the bleeding edge of the gun's design limitations. And at that, it already started out being more powerful than the Maverick.

So FX can say that they have a big bore rifle in the Impact .35 because it shoots pellets larger than .30 in diameter. But true big bore doesn't seem to be something FX is much interested in, so I highly doubt that they would spend the additional money and effort designing a larger caliber Maverick.

I ordered and Impact M3 in .35 already but was just curious why, according to these videos the valve section also seems smaller on the Maverick than on the Impact, but I was just hopping that some of you had your hands on both and could elaborate on what the differences are

If I can get the same performance as this guy I'll be happy with my Impact, but seems like I'll have to wait for it ;-)

I think even if the Maverick could shoot .357s, they would leave that area for the Impact as a differentiator between the two product lines.

But let's face it, the Impact is a sub par .357 at best, with such a low energy level. The FX line exist to bring sub MOA accuracy in a modular, tunable platform. Most shooting +200fpe don't require that level of accuracy, and a three inch group is a fine compromise for higher power levels.

My Benjamin Bulldog fits the bill in this area, and then those AEA folks have a few offerings, albeit with a much lower quality product.

Agree that it would not make sense to have the Maverick shoot the .357 as a less expensive platform than the Impact

Oh yes, already faced that from the beginning, and my guess was that i was a difference in the valve / hammer design

Just wanted some of you guys that had both disassembled, to tell what you noticed as differences inside the guns ;-)

I agree with your statement but I dont doubt the maverick is capable of similar performance with a 800mm barrel and heavier hammer. Impact honestly has a very negligible power edge and for 500-600 less I might bite.

Ernest Rowe has made a bigger plenum for a Maverick, that will for sure give it more power for .35, but I've not seen any who makes breech end for the Maverick in .35

I have a Maverick in .22 500mm and have the .30 Barrel change over kit installed. Now take in count it's the 500mm barrel but you have to get a heaver hammer for sure and tune it.

If you want to run .35's on a Maverick you I would do a 700mm barrel only. But I would probably go with another platform all together.

This tune is for a .30 caliber using 44.8grain JSB pellets.
Regulator 1 - 145 bar
Regulator 2 - 110 bar
Hammer adjustment screw - 5.98mm
Power wheel - 7

Getting about 870FPS

It's alot louder and you can tell it's sucking lots of air when fired.

Thanks for the details, Ken! 👍🏼

Do you have an approximate shot count you can tell us?
(This is with the 300cc bottle at 250bar, right?)

Don't really have a shot count I don't shoot it that much but I will get that for ya.

Yes it's the CF 250bar bottle.

Here is a pic with the .30 kit installed.
