Some of this was already pointed out but I wanted to elaborate. Nick @ Nielsen and Dale @ Varmint Knocker are competitors but both great guys, make a great product and are small compared to companies like JSB or HSN.
I don’t think Dale could meet production demands if he sold at retail stores, he already sells a ton of product that he makes himself by hand. Nick really has no reason to sell through a bunch of retailers, it would drive up prices and in essence he’d be competing with himself. Maybe he’ll do it in the future, who knows? His prices are already great, because he sells directly to the consumer and through a few stores like Utah Airguns. It’s more profitable this way!
Nick did exactly what everyone was crying for... he expanded production, is offering more products at much lower prices with more calibers and weights to come! The cost of a box of slugs is now about the same as pellets so it’s a little hard to complain that he’s doing what everyone has asked for!
Nick is also really listening to what we want and designing slugs that are more compatible with a wide range of air guns. He’s offering more calibers, weights, shapes, hollow points and base designs than he ever has with more to come.
The slug game has come a long way in the past year alone. Nick, Dale and the evolution of FX slug liners is a major reason why. In the big scheme of things, $18 for a box of slugs really isn’t that much money....at least compared to your Impact and scope.
I guess my long winded point is this; why not just pay the $18 for the slugs and keep these smaller, great business guys that are helping drive the industry in business? They’ve earned our allegiance! Mine anyway. Have a good one.
