I know I am not the only one that has this bitch...

Why cant the pellet manufactures do a better job of packaging pellets ?

I am getting at least 1% to 3 % Throw away rate on my pellets, in some cases much higher than that.. be it deformed, crushed, smashed , burred....

its just not right IMO, its bad enough cost wise and dealing with the " no screw tighten lids " , add the throw aways to the mix as a " Bonus " kick in the sack...

Its just something that torques my huevos .. other than buying Stupid High priced " Select " pellets I guess its just something we are forced to deal with... I don't know about you guys but pellet sorting is not one of my favorite things..

In Closing , maybe , just maybe , on a magical day this will no longer be a problem ..

Rant over, please post up if you agree , maybe the manufacturers will take notice .. Yeah Right.. !!!
 
For lead pellets, all but the most distorted skirts can be made true fairly quickly so long as you have a metal rod with rounded end that is slightly larger than the skirt of the pellet. I use the end of a fly-tying tool . Anyway, you can just skirt down over the rounded end turn it a bit. Trued in no time.

But, manufacturers could do a much better job of packing too. The key is to keep all the pellets stationary once they're in the tin. That means a thick layer of foam b/t the lid and the pellets. On .22 and up, they should probably have two discs of foam, one on the bottom and one on the top. You can have all the big styrofoam padding around the outside of the tins that you want. If the pellets are banging against one another in transit b/c they're loose in the tins, they'll be distorted. Most foam layers are too thin in the pellets I get.

On reason to prefer lead free pellets is that they are remarkably uniform, since they're composed of harder materials. Predators and H&N greens are always perfect.

All the JSB's and other brands from PA and Airgun Depot receive the very best packaging and arrive in top notch condition. Amazon and other shippers are notoriously lousy when shipping pellets. The damage you have most likely is from poor shipping not from manufacturing, at least in the case of JSB, AA, and H&N. If you get that many damaged then return them and re-order from a known quality shipper.

That's just it, I Only order from PA and Trenier , as you stated they both do a great job on packing them...

These are all JSB .177 and .22 lead.. 500 count tins …..

I know it sounds like petty thing but damn if I could do my job , Machinist , and get away with that kind variant in my work.. just sayin'...

Just yesterday recieved 4 containers of pellets from Pyramyd. ALL 4 just dropped into a thinly padded manilla envelope & mailed. OF COURSE they opened & dumped pellets. Called PA & told them to TRY & not let it happen to anyone else & it wasn't worth the hassle to return them (cheap order to experiment with a different pellet). They're sending me another order gratis but I was VERY surprised they'd ship stuff in that manner. 3 years of ordering from Airgun Depot & never lost ONE pellet. A.D. packs their pellets really great. Shame on you P.A.

When the market demands CHEAP products, the market delivers cheap products. The margin on pellets is razor thin. Talk about the Costco model (make a small profit on tons of orders versus a comfortable margin on a few orders).

You cannot expect champagne experience on a beer budget for pellets. However, the crosman pellets from Walmart are some of the best for consistency, and being made of harder alloy, will not suffer so much from transit damage.
