Why CONUS only on sales

Been looking at several rifles on classifieds as have many people I know. Problem is most sellers post CONUS only. Its to bad since PR is part of the USA and shipping is usually cheaper than some states when shipped via USPS. Just wondering why so many won't ship down here?

I think most people don’t want to deal with shipping unknowns, laws, etc. personally I would ship to PR as long as the buyer pays for shipping or there’s a mutual agreement etc. and as long as the carrier doesn’t have a problem shipping such items.

The conus only deal also pertains to legality. And most will list conus so as not to ship to Europe or other countries/ continents. I don’t think Puerto Rico would be a problem. You can always PM a seller and see if they would ship to you.

Shipping outside CONUS costs more and if you advertise something with free shipping, you're gonna take gas. It's particularly a problem when shipping to a foreign country, then there's legal issues as well as customs. I've sold to people in PR and HI but only if they agreed to pay the shipping costs.

Laws are the same here...nothing on airguns. I have no issues paying for shipping. I've purchased airguns from California and only pay 60 USPS priority mail. I think many people ASSUME PR is in their own world in regards to laws but I've asked many sellers through PM and they simply say they wont ship to me. I respect their desicion; just wish they would tell me why sometimes.

I'm one of those that stipulates CONUS lower 48. Why, because I pay shipping. I always think it's easier on the buyer when they see the price of the gun, shipped, and I generally don't charge for PP fees. If anyone does PM me and tells me that they'll pay to ship outside of the lower 48 or to PR, then I would have no issues with that. I prefer to sell to lower 48 strictly for shipping costs since I pay. I recently had a not-so-good experience with an item that I shipped outside of the lower 48, It cost me more money and grief.

I recently sold my Commander and advertised it as CONUS and I'll pay shipping. Hypothetically if you were interested I wouldn't refuse shipping to PR but would work something out in the event the shipping costs far exceeded reasonable shipping costs akin to CONUS.

Might just be folks may not be aware of PR airgun laws and/or shipping costs. I would expect most forum members here to be reasonable and kind people so you might want to PM the seller and explain as you have in this thread.

I appreciate all the responses. I've tried to purchase a rifle 3 times and all 3 sellers have flat out said no...only lower 48. I've even told them I'd pay shipping charges even though it can be cheaper to ship here and; again flat out said no. I could understand Europe and other countries with FPE laws and restrictions, but here is the same as the Continental USA

Sorry I can't speak for other sellers but if you approached me with a smiliar request I would have no issues moving forward with the sale... if you were willing to educate me as you have in this thread.

I'm on the east coast.... not only is PR no different in law (airgun related) than most states.... it's also cheaper to ship there than to CA and certainly HI or Alaska for me. Depends somewhat on the carrier....

JCD...so true. It must be USPS. If it's not that carrier then YES, it does cost a small fortune.

Thanks to puertorico and to all of you guys who took the time to comment on his post. I have also contacted some sellers who did not wanted to ship to Puerto Rico, even when I offered to pay shipping. Hope to be able to buy from guys in this tread in the near future.

People and including I only ship conus for the main reason is cost. 2nd reason would be legal issuse and custom.

There are no legal issues and customs here for airguns. This is a commonwealth of the United States.

Have you ever tried to price shipping here? I guarantee its cheaper to ship here than to some states unless you live in California.

I develop prejudices based on personal experience(s). For example, I've sent airguns to Hawaii 2 or 3 times, in each case getting burned on shipping charges from a little to a lot. If I ever sell to Hawaii again, I'll OVERCHARGE for shipping, and rebate some afterwards (if appropriate).

That's almost 2,500 miles from California. PR is 1k miles from Florida. Big difference in distance and I know it had to be a LOT to ship there.

I usually post CONUS as it's easy, but I just shipped to HI and it was about the same cost with USPS as anywhere else - and this is from CT. If you ship flat rate - who cares - it's all the same cost.

I usually just say conus just cause I've had others outside of the US try to buy stuff. However if contacted by anyone that's part of the US like Hawaii Alaska and Puerto Rico then I'll definitely work something out with them. And I've shipped from Puerto Rico before and no different.

I'm the same as Dairyboy I put CONUS because of items I pay shipping on and then have a guy in the UK or EU wants it but I will work with a feller on shipping as I have shipped a number of airguns to Hawaii so Port Rico wouldn't be a problem just contact me.
