Juneau is organizing a task force to tackle a feral bunny problem.

A “Bunny Task Force” has been created in an effort to help control Juneau’s growing population of feral rabbits.Stephanie Sell, biologist with the Department of Fish and Game, formed the group in response to the increasing number of complaints issued to the department about the rabbits in the Mendenhall Valley, The Juneau Empire reported. Sell estimates that there are “upwards of a couple hundred” rabbits living in the valley.

"Between April and July of this year, the Humane Society took in more than 20 rabbits and spent more than $16,000 caring for the animals." Looks like the Alaska Humane Society should hook up with the Feed the Children organization. They can feed a kid for like $0.33 a day. They could have donated 20 rabbit dinners and $16,000 and been a hell of a lot more humane. I guess Sarah Palin is the norm not the exception.

I was thinking the same thing. For $16,000 they could charter a plane full of airgunners and house and feed them for a weekend. They'd probably save money on the deal actually. And it would probably by more effective.

I'd counter that allowing hundreds of bunnies to starve or destroy their habitat is not humane. The only other option is to introduce more predators. I doubt that would go over well either.

My only point is the humane society is a bunch of liberal anti hunting idiots!! And, nature is neither humane nor fair!!

Around here the Humane Society is much more pragmatic. I'd think Alaska would be the same.

The organization on a national level is horrible and about as good for hunters and sportsmen as PETA!!

$16000 for the care of 20 rabbits doesn't seem very pragmatic. Game and Fish on the other hand actually know how to handle wildlife.

Humane Society give cats three (3) days before they euthanize them. Must of been some rare rabbits!

Is the round trip paid? If so...I'm ready to talk! I would be willing to give rabbits an ethical headshot. And I would even be happy to give the meat to the needy families, in gratitude for the free opportunity to travel and hunt. Heck, I'll even bring my PB if it makes them feel better!
