Many stress damages can't be seen by the naked eye.
What are some examples?
Example brand new scope play with it first n4 mounting into the gun all works smooth zoom ring parallax etc them mount in unlapped rings that aren't perfect and it on scope rail not perfect using 2 piece mounts the zoom ring real stiff sometimes can't crank all the way to one direction and the side parallax can't focus to infinity or closest stated yards after.
Remove the rings then still can't zoom smoothly and parallax same either end of close focus or infinity can't be achieved. No ring marks. Torqued to spec.
Sent for warranty exchange and called to check status "oh the scope was stressed" then I reply how so there's no marks on it "we just know" got a new replacement and that's how I say scope tube stressed.
Lapped my rings after that no more quirkiness and I do like to play with my scopes b4 mounting them onto the guns to see how smooth they are and ckear and closest ficus and if it actually has infinity or less than 1000 rangefindered yards. Have noticed several popular brand models don't focus past 400-600 yards believe it or not based on the scopes I tested then returned for refund. Some didn't focus past 300 yards. One of the Bushnell Forge for example 600 yard max then that's it. Some Discovery scopes 200 yard max.
I'm over my critical regarding scopes though. Most people probably don't even notice or care especially the ones happy to pay way more than they are actually worth and not even clear all the way.
