Who all goes to the trouble of baiting chipmunks?

Ummm, I bait for them in a live trap. They are most active from just after sunrise to late morning, so it has worked best to set the trap after dinner (because in summer they still might scurry around in early evening) and check the trap next morning.

For squirrels, baiting a bigger live trap in late morning and then leaving to stay away for a few hours, till early or mid afternoon, works best. The squirrels here are most active during those hours. They used to sit calmly eating even when I walked right near them, but ever since shooting one and killing it in spring, they run away when either of us is around. Hence, the live trapping first. The traps have been VERY effective (100% success rate) when rigged so the animal can't grab the food and escape without triggering the trap door.

I do not consider trapping and shooting to be hunting. It is pest extermination that puts airguns to practical use. It also allows me to schedule the trapping and killing for days/times that suit other activities, so I am not waiting around to see if vermin come near.

I learn something everyday.
Chipmunks have been in North America since at least the Oligocene epoch, about 30-36 million years ago, as they are a type of squirrel, and the earliest squirrel fossils in North America date to that period. The chipmunks that exist today in North America are descended from ancestors who survived the last ice age

Does that mean they are like cock roaches, even after a nuk they will survive?
