While you were sleeping...

I was busy last evening. Took down one of two or three big masked bandits I’ve been seeing on my trail camera this past two weeks. They’ve been getting really fat off the bird seed. Every morning I find the feeder empty and every evening it’s at least half way full. Yes there are squirrels too but not enough of them to clean out that feeder each night.

They’ve been lucky that they have been coming out at around 4am when I’m asleep. But these bandits are too greedy and I knew they’d slip up one night and show up before my bedtime. Last night was the end of the road for this fatty.

Took this photo this morning before work. I picked it up and it weighed around 20ish pounds.

Video to come soon!

My brother and I had a pet coon when we were kids, and they're very cool, bright, and DEXTROUS animals. I never harbored any ill will toward them until I got a big enough place for game feeders, then experienced raccoons' "masked bandit" side.

To their list of impressive talents, I should add "stronger than you'd think" to the "dextrous" part. After installing heavy wire game-guards around the spin-cast rotors and spike-strips to the legs of my feeders, the bandits STILL climb the legs and somehow manage to damage the wire guards! I now control the raccoon numbers.
