Now that my rainstorm came in I need to pick up my 8 yr old son a springer. What is the best rifle to get him? I'd like something light but not too easy to cock, I don't want him thinking it's a toy. Thanks for your help.

hands down get an hw30 in .22 cal. I will run at 8 foot pounds and have amazing quality. look no further

Another vote for the HW30S if it fits him, iirc Diana makes a couple smaller rifles. Also there some entry level springers out there Ruger? Umerex? etc...

yes there is but the hw 30 will last and last and last. the quality is just there. it speaks for its self

HW30S, no doubt! My son started with one at the age of 8. Learn him to shoot with open sights. It will make him a better shooter.

I tried a winchester(Chinese) and it felt good but the plastic sights wouldn't adj far enough for windage. I only tried it because it was in town. I ordered a diana 240 as the hw30 were sold out and wouldn't be in for 3-4mnths. I guess they are made to order. Hopefully the Diana is good too.

I have a Diana 24C T05, The Diana 240 is it's replacement ? The 24 is a fun little gun. Who is sold out of the HW30s that long ?

My son is 8, and still too small to safely wield my silent cat, so I got him a red ryder lever action bb gun. Fits him well.

I want my son to have an airgun that is tough to cock so I have to be there to help him. I don't want him to have a toy......if you know what I mean. At first it will be for targets from a shooting table with a good rest so the weight won't be much of an issue. I'll help him out lots for awhile.

I wouldn't count on him not being able to cock it for long - young boys being as resourceful as they are. Might be better to lock up the pellets. :^)

For sure, I bought a trigger lock as well. I sighted it in today for him. It is nice and tight at the joint, but the nicest part of the rifle is how buttery smooth the trigger is. He will get a chance to shoot it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all the input.
