I am interested in trying a piston rifle for benchrest. I have recently just got tx200 for hft in 177. I have a 48 in 22 I could try try but I would be willing to get another rifle for benchrest.
I really like the looks at the HW 98. I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks
Jon
Today I shot my Diana 54 in .22 at 50 and 100 yards. The rest I used has several tops so of course I took the one with the wrong bag, but I still came home happy. I started at 100 yards. Wind was predominately rt to left with switches to a tail wind going slightly the opposite direction. Tails were from 10 degrees to 90 degrees. I shot a dozen shots to get a feel for the wind then put a clean target up. First three shots where a triangle dead center of about 3/4 of an inch or a bit less. Fourth shot went a half inch rt of the first three, now 4 in 1.5 or a bit less. Fifth shot hit a quarter inch below where I held. First 2 flags went from rt to left 45 degree tail to a straight away tailwind with tails at about 20 degrees. So it went 2 inches left of my group leaving me with 5 in around 3.5. I was pretty happy. Then I shot 2 groups at 50 yards. Both around 3/4 inch. First 3 shots of the first group just made a fat hole. I was unhappy with this rifle when I bought it. After tuning by John Thomas and then adding Hectors tuner....I love it.

That's great!

I use a pedestal front rest with a soft jersey bag filled with tiny plastic oval beads. Rear is a leather tall rabbit ear bag filled with black sand from Protector. I am shoot Exact 15.89 gr pellets lubed with T9. The rest is called the Cown rest formerly built by GTAC, the Altooa Area VoTech. They are no longer made due to the political bias of the new superintendent . The rest was designed by the Precision Machine Instructor Joe Cowan, built by the students with all proceeds going back to the students. They have been sold over the last 20 years and are in most countries in the world.
