Which rifle should I buy HW 80 or HW 95 in .22 ?

Hello Folks,

I am in the market to buy a new springer .22. I already have a HW 95 in .177. I really want a springer in .22 and I love the HW 95 .177 that I already own. I am looking at the HW 95 Field Pro or the HW 80 Long Range Hunter in .22. Also, any thoughts on the scope those rifles come will would be helpful, it looks like both rifles come with the same scope from AOA.

Both are excellent airguns that have been around for decades and have a strong following. I have owned and shot both and much prefer the powerplant in the hw95. The larger 30mm compression chamber in the hw80/R1 results in a harsher shot cycle. Even tuned to the same power level, I enjoyed the shot cycle of the 26mm piston in the hw95 over the hw80. The hw80 is the only springer I’ve ever sold.

Now, if you want to achieve higher power levels in .22 of 18-20fpe, the hw80 may be the best option because it can be tuned to those levels whereas the hw95 will probably max at 15-16fpe. Personally, I like springers in the 12-13fpe range for best accuracy.

Good luck choosing.

I have all the hw95s .177 .20 and .22 tuned they all make about 15-16 ft lb. Although the .20 and the .22 have a smoother shot cycle or in my opinion. I also have the hw 80 long range hunter vortek sho kit installed with the 12 inch barrel and moderator. This rifle make more energy with the short barrel than the standard 19 or the 16 inch carbine barrel. I have done a lot of testing on this. The hw95 with with 14.66 705 fps. Hw 80 Hunter with 14.66 810 fps @21.36 ft lb. With the 16 and 19 inch barrels they are between 750-775 fps. From a hunting stand point I love the Hw80 . But for all day plinking in the back yard the Hw95 in .22. Also I am a big fan or the vortek kits. I have had two with issues one that I got from pyramid that had been packaged wrong. They were aware of the mixup and sent me a new one free of charge. Also had a spring loose tension on one but Tom was quick to replace it. Saying all that I have installed around twenty or so for myself and fellow members of the bayou airgun club. You can never go wrong with either one.
