Which gun?

I got a buddy who wants to get his first air rifle and he asked for my suggestions but he said he only wanted to spend about $100.00. (he is a tight wad) I know he'd like to be able to get squirrels with it. He was looking at break barrels but I've been trying to steer him more to a co2 gun or a pumper. I have a Gamo 1250 hunter that set me back around $400.00 at the time and that's one thing but to have a cheap break barrel like he's looking at well I just don't know. I suggested a Sheridan 2260, a Beeman QB 78 or for a little more money the Benjamin 392. Am I steering him in the right direction?

you guys are mean.... funny but mean :)

I’ve got cheap friends who have plenty of money and buy junk and do two things. Complain because they can’t hit anything and then make snide comments because I buy expensive guns .

You can have money or the things money can buy. Either is fine but I’m not too sympathetic to tight wads . It’s not mean it’s just reality. You get what you pay for . Life is short enjoy it.

Well for $100 not much out there. If you go break barrel a gas ram will run closer to 150. If you want one with a spring in it, it's gonna be closer to $300 for a.nice one that will group. The cheaper spring guns need work to shoot great, thats why a nice one cost so much. The gas rams/nitro pistons already have the twang tuned out, because of the gas ram. So a 1377/22 run about $50 and add a steal breach or maybe a 2200. If your buddy would spend the $$$$ on a 392, which run about 250. Then $250 opens up a lot of options. You might even find a slick European made Springer that shoots smoother than freshly shaved pooter

By most accounts the QB guns are pretty decent-if you can stretch to $150 the Walther Terrus from AOA is worth a look-check out Joe Wayne's review.

BAM! And there You have it! Two Very nice options. I have both and can attest to their bang for the buck. It will be 50 bucks more for the Terrus...so he might wanna take back some cans/bottles or donate some plasma. Like a lot of folks,if he wants it bad enough,he'll find a way to make it happen.

I think Wall mart has airguns for 100. He can buy any of those. He won't need a scope. Then tell him to practice throwing the gun at small objects till he gets good at it.

My point with 100.00 airguns is that you said your friend wants to shoot squirrels with it. If his goal is to actually kill them ethically then do the responsible thing and invest in a gun that can get the job done. If he will be satisfied with wounding more than he kills, then I'm sure most of the junk they sell at Walmart will suffice. I would hope that we would all understand that coming up with the cheapest piece of crap that will shoot pellets may not be the best direction to send new shooters. If he can't afford something decent then maybe he shouldn't be shooting at live creatures.

Tell him to go cut a tree branch and an inner tube and make a sling shot

Honestly a $100? I don’t think you can do it for that unless you find a gun at a yard sale that they don’t know what it’s worth

not thats funny i dont care who you are

Wow, I'm gonna see if I can get him to see these posts he might see how unrealistic he is.

If your cheap friend is like my cheap friends they are proud of it. I’ve got one guy who I actually think a lot of who is really tight unless he can buy something to avoid income taxes. If he could find a way to write guns off as a business expense by golly he’d have some GUNS.

I also know guys who have tens of thousands of dollars in guns which is ok accept most of them never shoot them.

Humans do stuff that don’t make much sense. I have friends who I think really do believe that the richest guy in the grave yard wins

For some it’s just keeping score

There’s three things to be done with money. Invest it. Enjoy it. Or give it away. I try and do some of each. There’s nothing wrong with dying rich if you are planning on leaving some kind of legacy behind. Whether that’s giving it away to some cause you’re passionate about after your gone or leaving it to your children or loved ones, it doesn’t matter.

Nothing wrong with enjoying some of your money while you’re around either. So maybe remind your friend of that also.

A Benjamin 392 can be had from Amazon for $144. They may not be quit what they used to be, but for what they are, there isn’t really a whole lot wrong with them either. Many a squirrel have fallen to a 392 over the years.

A lot of people are pretty judgmental about what others have or what they do with their money or what they value. Ignore them. If your friend wants to start out on the lower end there’s a few options for him that can get the job done with reasonable expectations and common sense judgement.

What’s left out, is the type of person that looks at you and your nice, hard earned guns and thinks your spoiled or something. He overlooks the fact that your passionate about your hobby and will only buy the best that you can afford. No, they think your spoiled or something, especially when ever they come around you have something newer from the last time they saw you.

personally I don’t care what people think, cause I have worked hard for what I have and where I’m at in life. The one thing that does bug me, is when you show something to somebody the first question they ask is “how much”. I’ve tried avoiding answering that, but they keep at it. I have a neighbor exactly like that. He saw me and my son building a dock and bridge on our pond, and came over to get a look see. He asks what you building? I tell him. So I’m thinking his next words would be like oh, that’s cool. Instead, it’s “how much?” He wouldn’t let off, either. I answered quite some coin. He asks “how much?” He wouldn’t leave till I actually gave him a dollar amount.
