Which chronograph?

Hopefully in the very near future, I want to send my 392pa to Mac1 for a complete (ALL THE GOODIES), Steroid modification.

I have a chart from the internet showing the stated velocities for my Benjamin from 1 to 8 pumps, with a 14.2gr pellet.

So I'm really wanting to see the speeds it will get after the sterioding, so what inexpensive chrony do you all suggest?

Remember, I'm a broke-a$$ retired guy on a fixed income and very limited budget.

Used mine yesterday.. thing is its first grab , ive had it for a few years now. , in the years ive had it i guess i charged it 2 or 3 times for maybe a hour just because .. .its a older mps one that dont do fos as the newer ones will . Its handy , its works when i need it , simple , easy . Best i can tell its close to spot on in reafing , and no isdues with .177 what i primarily shoot ..

Casting another vote for the cheap clamp-on. I have multiple chronographs including an FX and a ProChrono but the little $30 clamp-on type is what I end up using 9 times out of 10.

Pros
  1. Agrees well with my ProChrono. Either it’s accurate or they are both wrong by the same amount.
  2. Has its own infrared light source. Works in any lighting and even in the dark. No fussy or time-consuming setup with screens or lights.
  3. Never misses a reading. Never ever. That alone makes it worth the price of admission if you’ve ever waited hours to check the speed of the first shot, only to have the chronograph fail to get it.

Cons
  1. No means to electronically retrieve the string. If you want to keep it, you have to manually copy it to a spreadsheet. I don’t frequently save long strings so that doesn’t weigh heavily for me.
  2. Stores only 40 shots.
  3. The one I have is older and has only integer meter resolution, meaning roughly +1.5fps resolution, but I see mention of an fps setting in the reviews for the one linked by Lewis.

I have one like the one linked by Lewis and I use it. Mine is older too so it only gives me MPS, not fractions of a MPS or fps. I like it and use it. It is well entered on the muzzle by the clamp and does not miss shots as long as it is charged. The only thing I do not like about it is that it shifts the POI for some of my guns. I like to shoot targets while chronographing so it impacts that. You can get a similar priced tripod mount from Alliexpress that does not impact POI. But it's drawback is it will only be centered on your barrel if you center it. If it is fairly far off you may miss a shot. If it is really far off you may shoot one of the posts (they are metal with a plastic cover). So it is not perfect but it is the one I use most of the time. I'm on my second one and it has fps, the first one did not.

I don't mind having to write down the velocity of the shots, I put them in my airgun notebook and the data is useful sometimes. I also enter it into a spreadsheet but not every time. Sometimes I don't need the SD and I can eyeball the ES and just having it in the notebook is good enough.
