❓ Which Cameras or ScopeCams offer MORE than 240 fps (frames per second)?

❓ Which Cameras or ScopeCams offer MORE than 240 fps (frames per second)?

The Tactacam 5.0 gives me 240fps.
I would like to know what other options are there that have a higher fps (frames per second) rate than 240fps?

I appreciate your help in pursuing more exciting scope cam footage. 😊

I have also a cam on top of my list to buy next, but........I don't want to buy two cams and I would primarily use it as an action cam.
What I learned so far is that unfortunately action cams and shooting cams don't mix.
A new gopro is coming out soon, actually two models, but a last year model didn't had a 3rd party replaceable lens for scope mount only some older models.
Following...

If you plan on using the camera primarily from the bench the side shot units are ok with GoPro but very expensive for what they are. If you plan on hunting that may require hiking around I see nothing better than the Tactacam units, especially for the price. I prefer them because they don't take up much eye relief, mount very slim and solid, won't shift that I have encountered with other mounting systems. The downside is they don't record in a high frame rate but even then can be managed well through editing software.

To get above 240 fps and have hd video I think you will be spending some money and its likely the camera wont be a very good camera for mounting to a scope. 240 fps in 1080p is slow enough for watching pellets fly into objects. You can post edit to slow it down more and still retain smooth video. Why do you feel you need slower than 240 fps hd?

I am watching this , I jumped into the side shot camera thing a few years ago and it was a lot more than a headache,Never even made ONE action film or even a still shot. Looks like the Tactacam may be the way to go..
They do have a new 6.0 out I will have to check out the difference, And the big reason I want to film is to see what my pellets are doing out there at 48 yards , And show my brothers that live thousands of miles away that I can shoot aspirins at 48 yards.. Two older brothers think I tell big fibs, A fib is a 1/2 lie. LOL. Any little brothers out there ?

Mike,

The Tactacam 6.0 does not fit into the FTS mount for scope camming — it's just a gun mounted action cam.

Surprising to hear so much support for the Tactacam... — yeah, I want smooth-ish slo-mo of the pellet flight and the hit.

I wonder how the image quality compares between Firefly, GoPro, and Tactacam..... 🤔

I have had the Russ Bear scope camera for a year thats incredible quality, above the Tactacam or anything else. He custom made it special for me as a gift and I will be digging more into that setup soon. It does take up more eye relief that requires you to move the scope quite a bit forward. The nice thing about the unit is it has a diopter... example is with the Tactacam you will never have a perfect balance between what you see and what the camera sees. Having a diopter allows the best of both but does take much more time to setup. This unit records in faster frame rate so slow motion will look much smoother, it also has a watch that you can wear as a remote on/off. I will dig more into it and hopefully use it to film some of my hunts to show the quality. The Tactacam is by far the easiest setup, least expensive and if done correctly can produce a beautiful quaity picture.

Wait, Mike!

● Filming with the "bare" Tactacam will only give you a rather low magnification — meaning that your quarry (and your pellet) will be rather small objects in a vast sea of landscape....

● On the other hand, filming through your scope will magnify your quarry (and pellet) much more — as much as your scope's magnification will allow.

● The bare Tactacam is fine for large quarry like deer and pigs.
But in general, airgun quarry is small — and needs more magnification....

Thank you for the Rus Bear scope cam comments. I'm all ear. Of course, a on-off camera won't help me much, but it seems the camera lens has higher quality and a higher frame-per-second rate — and the diopter. 👍🏼

My mother still thinks I am lying to her (politics), although I am the ONLY person who actually tells her the truth. (heavy sigh)

I figure I have been written out of the WILL for a long time... (sigh/chuckle)

I'll have to look at the Tactacam again. Last time I looked, it still seemed to be a pain to implement them even without TTS (through the scope) and I am not sure they would do what I was looking for. Are they "through the scope" now? NOPE. So, 4k @ 60FPS just isn't an option... even @ $299. The price is good, but the function isn't.

Needless to say, I will probably never have through the scope video capability. The "digital" scopes, IMHO, are not ready for prime time and already cost too much and "digital zoom" sucks... and the cost of adding a GoPro or any other high speed video cam for TTS (through the scope) video is beyond what I can justify to spend when you include the insane cost of the mounts. Not that I can't ultimately afford it... I just can't rationalize the cost. (chuckle)

When the mount costs more than twice the price of an already expensive camera... somebody is getting rich and somebody is getting screwed. Guess which is which? (chuckle)

Kudos to those of you who can afford/justify the $$$$ and post those great videos for the rest of us poor (average lower middle class) people to enjoy! (smile)

I went to RusBears site , But I think its kind of the same thing as the side shot,, But I really know nothing about this stuff, Other than it eats money, LOL. I like buying everything at once and at one place, CHECK WARRENTY , If it don't work box it up and send it back,,,
Mike

RusBear’s ScopeCam allows you to shoot as you normally do (usual gun holding) and record excellent quality slow motion video. There are 2 variants: (1) guns below 150J (110 ft-lb), (2) guns above 150J (110 ft-lb).

I'm don't know anything about this company or if their products work well. However it does give me an idea for another project for my 3d printer. I already have a scoping scope, Hero9 and Hero10. It seems that I can print some connectors to mount them to a spotting scope. If that works I can get 240 fps at 2K resolution using the Hero10, or 60 fps at 4K. They also sell products for rifle scopes that are not compatible to Hero cams. Not a through the rifle scope view but for stationary use can be a similar viewpoint with better brightness for both the shooting and the video camera.

Russ Bear aka Nikolay Boldov is a friend of mine from Russia, he actually won the EBR a few years back. He uses this scopecam as a learning tool to help develop barrels and find out what various pellets and slugs are doing through flight. The camera does have a diopter so the image can be very precise for viewing in slow motion. Currently I believe he's a sponsored FX shooter and is in route to this year's EBR. For the average user many of these units might be a bit to time consuming to get involved with. As I mentioned the Tactacam with FTS mount is about the best I've found as far as simplicity, even then people get confused.

I like the Tactacam FTS system, but there are limitations concerning the camera’s frame rate, clarity, and zoom. In my experience the lighting has to be right to catch pellets inflight if you don’t paint them. If the sunlight is behind you it’s easier to see them. I haven’t tried painting pellet skirts. Haven’t used any other camera systems for this sort of thing.

@orion has captured some really great footage of pellets in flight. I think I’ve read that he uses a Valdada scope so that has to have something to do with the clarity. As for the frame rate I’m not sure if he uses the OriónCam or what. The quality of the picture on some of his slo-mo shots of projectiles in flight in his iguana hunting vids is excellent.

Yea, What 999 said people get confused, The Tactacam seems like the most simple way to go, And I could paint a few pellets to watch what is its doing.. As soon as I recover from the two guns I just bought (Sidewinder and Prophet II compact) I am going to try the Tactacam out, But until then I am going to read everything I can and really get confused LOL.

P.S I have known a few girls from Russia , Mean as all get out, I was afraid to have S E Z with one, That was 35 years ago all power lifters at the local gym.
