Which Caliber for 100-125yd Ground Squirrel Kills? .22 or .25?

I have not played with slugs and my only .25 is new to me. Ranges past 50 are rare in my world.

A few weeks ago I was on lawn chair safari. The Mpup is awesome within my comfort zone < 50. I missed several at 70 so due to lack of practice with new gun. But it was pretty clear to me that more power would be good.

177 vs 22 with pellets. When I get past 50 the 177 seems to drop more quickly. My hold overs are about the same to 50, but past that the 177 required more hold over due to being only half the weight.
Slugs are an animal that i have not played with.

My 25 Talon P with 18” barrel is what i plan to use for longer range. I will play with slugs some day, but not soon.

You will not be able to mod that SAMrod into a slug/long range gun without spending a lot of money.
Money better spent on a more power platform.

My Mrod is unregulated and is pushing 16s 100 fps faster. Will it kill a chipper at 100? Sure, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best tool.

You need a more powerful rig for the hide, so SAM can be used for combat patrol.

My Mrod Prod combo works well for that.
Keep the big gun in the tripod and use the little one for those that need to be chased.
Well shows how much I know about the mrod hahaha.

Game changer!

That’s awesome bro! And you got the hunting pooch too…. This next video will tell you why I shoot slugs bro. Turn the volume up after the metallic ping you’ll hear a popping noise. That’s the slug hitting. This shot is at 73.8y this time but the last video was the 35gr(I was just playing around) this is the 31gr. No settings were changed not even the zero.

Because of you, I'm getting a .25 250z! Many thanks for the push to more happiness!
Oh no I wasn’t trying to sell you a whole new gun just show you what can be done with an affordable slug shooter. Anyways when you get it feel free to hope into the barra forums for tuning advice. I’m certainly happy to share whatever I know.

I think you’re gonna have a lot of fun. In some ways it feels like ultra long range with a powder burner but in mini form when you start calculating your drops and accounting for spin drift haha. Some of these targets are really small though so the precision is fun to figure out. I’m not an amazing shot by any means so I’ve been focused on tuning a gun that shoots as flat as possible out to 100y.

Also trust me when I say that hunting at night with a silenced air rifle is thrilling. Using red lights or night vision it’s so freaking cool to whack the varmints when they can’t see or hear you. Being out in the in the pitch black sage feels different when I’m the critter everything else should be worried about haha.

How much do you want to spend on a new gun.... :😀

Much past a 100 yards a slug shooter will be MUCH easier. Heck pushing some of my slugs I have been hitting targets at 200 yards with ease. Now that rifle is close to 20lbs so not a really fun hunting gun to lug around.
$439 I can swing for the 250z.

Oh yeah that’s not the problem at all. I’m talking about the next 5-10 guns you’re gonna end up wanting sooner rather than later 😂😂😂😂
Nah, I just need one more pellet gun to get me to 100yd hits. Teetered between .22 and .25, but then I figured just go big or go home! LOL Now, I need to look at moderators because though my neighbors are cool and want me to shoot the ground squirrels, I'd still like to be low pro about it.

Im just using a basic BuckRail 3D printed moderator and it works great.

I know they are spendy.....but.....a brk ghost or an HM1000x will shoot great or you. My HM1000x is what I use as a match rifle. Very accurate and fun to shoot. The ghost I am getting set up now to shoot slugs and things are looking promising at this stage.
That ghost sounds interesting! Can’t wait to see the results.
