Where's Claudio?

Claudio didn’t quality for the 100 yard final. He was close, but no cigar...

He was shooting a new .25 Daystate Grey Wolf, shooting .25 Heavy at 1070 FPS.

Are you sure it wasn't 970? 1070 would be 86FPE, the most I can get is 72FPE and thats 980.

Well, when I was talking to him, he said "mil setenta", and my Spanish is pretty good, so I think thats what he meant. Derrick (@zx10wall) was also standing there and heard the same thing. He only got about 20 to 25 shots between fills... Do you have the .25 Safari?

Ernest was pushing his 44.75 grain .30 cal JSBs at well over 1000 fps (1050?) with his Impact, so it looks like power is the name of the game...

I just wish the top shooters would be more open to declaring that they are essentially being sponsored by various manufacturers. Since I know this is going on I have to take anything they say with a grain of salt.

Hi Brian, who is it that their hides sponsorship at these events?

I’ve never seen the check they may get or the free perks they may receive so I don’t want to name anyone that I suspect. But I’ve seen top shooters that were using certain brands of equipment for years with success then last year they were all using at EBR the RedWolf which is a fine gun . But it just seemed fishy to me. When I did ask some shooters about this they wouldn’t give me a straight answer. With one exemption and he is open in his videos that hardware was given to him to test he does totally honest reviews and gives the hardware away. A top shooter is going to want to use the best hardware he is comfortable with but since great shooting is 90% the ability of the shooter not the quality of the hardware . If I was told come to the xyz bench rest competition you can stay at one of the guest houses we are renting we will also let you use one of our guns and here are plane tickets for you also. I would definitely consider taking them up on that offer. Now there in nothing illegal for companies to do this that is their marketing plan. Even if it only happens once competitors should be open to letting the public know they are de facto employees of the various brands they are exposing to the public.

At the start of his videos Steve mentions many companies that help sponsor his company. Hopefully that doesn’t jade his remarks but I like his videos. Whey can’t shooters be like NASCAR drivers and wear clothing with their sponsors on them ones that say sponsored by xyz Guns not just a standard company shirt anyone can buy.

Brian, I don't think at RMAC they were hiding their sponsorships. The South African guys (Matt, Roelf, and Gerhard) made no bones about being FX sponsored. All three of those guys can shoot, and Matt was amazing. They told FX what gun, what caliber, what pellets and speed to tune it for, and what scope and bipod they wanted, and they were provided upon arrival. We had the awards banquet in the mansion they all were staying in and it was awesome. I think someone said 38,000 square feet and $35M. We had the banquet in the basketball court - full size and height - of the house. They had set up a shooting range out back for the guys to practice. I think there were 9 or 10 others staying there but don't know for sure. Well, Ted, but others not sure. But in no way did anyone try to hide anything...They were actually told by Frederick A to be straight up with people. FX guns won everything except 2nd in Speed Challenge. No reason to hide information. And no, I'm not an FX fanboy, although I do have an old .30 FX Bobcat and a .177 FX Crown. I shot the Bobcat, plus a Cricket and a Vulcan at RMAC.

At EBR last year I was surprised that long time FX shooters and RAW shooters were all using brand new RedWolfs I asked a few of them what was happening that they abandoned their regular rifles for the RedWolf and not one person said anything about a new relationship with Daystate or AOA. I know Ted and Matt have spoken about their connection to FX and I truly believe that they are using FX for the results they have been able to accomplish. I’m hopeful that the Daystate team will be as open as the FX team is. I also hope at this years EBR that they put the FX-AOA squabble on the back burner so we can all have a good time. I hope FX is there with their “crew” Incase I have a problem with my hardware. At last years EBR Claudio was pretty open about his Bantam/ Daystate connection but no one else was at least with me, I think it was more like they didn’t know what they could say so they said nothing.

Thanks, well actually the only Safari that exists at this moment is the one Claudio has, the new 3S extra high power batteries required for the Safari due to the massive power output have only just arrived at Daystate and the guns are being finished and shipped as we speak.

Unless Claudio reprogrammed the gun after it left the factory increasing the pulse length to get the speed up, but the stated shot count for the Safari on HP is 30 anyways.

I can get 1000FPS with the 44g .30 but that is really pushing it.

I think it's fairly safe to say that all those in the pro class have something to gain from using a particular brand weather direct sponsorship or not. If they don't then they are missing a trick because if I was in that position I would be. It is their job after all.

I will tell you, without mentioning names, that minor sponsorship was offered on the spot for some shooters that finished near the top in the Pro Class, but didn't finish top 3. Items like ammo, bipods, accessories, etc. If you wear our XXX colors when you compete, we'll provide you with YYY. I not sure if this was done for the Sportsman's Class, since that would be unethical, or at least I didn't hear about it, even though the top Sportsmen were as good as the Pros...
