Where to shoot/hunt near LA County?

There is a LOT of good public land hunting within 2-3 hours of LA. Carrizio plain, Mojave Preserve, Figueroa mountain area in Los Padres, Alamo mountain area in Los Padres, Frazier Park, Lockwood valley off hwy 33, west Antelope valley off 138, Red Mountain area, and the entire Mojave desert on hwy 14 north of Mojave just to name a few.

I hunt some of these areas regularly and almost never see any other hunters. There is no reason to keep these places "secret" because there is so little hunting pressure. Get a map and get out there and start exploring.

By far the best resource for good places to hunt in CA is Jim Matthew's Western Birds newsletter. No cheap, but worth every penny.
