i sold a custom flintlock and want to take the cash and buy a crown, but where to buy is my dilemma. I would love to buy from a dealer in my state, but if I do, I have to pay 6% sales tax and he is $70.00 higher than out of state shops. However, I will get it sooner and am helping out the smaller shop, but it will cost me $180.00 more. So do I buy from out west and spend the savings on ammo, or stay local? I’m not in a hurry, but it is a tough decision for me. I can drive to my local shop in about 3 hours, handle and hand pick a gun, which is another benefit.
 
If I were choosing, I would help the local shop. And believe me, you will spend that $180 several times shipping your gun back and forth to an out of state dealer. I would pay an extra $200 easy just to have the dealer right here in my town so that I can go by and check on progress and pick their brain a little about the guns. You can develop a rapport with with the dealer and maybe learn things he doesn't have time to share with other people. Good luck getting that from most of the out of state companies. Don't get me wrong, there are a few that will do that. But since I am a small business owner myself, I'm all about supporting my local guys where I can.

$180 is probably the profit he will make on the rifle. If he handles service on the rifle, it may be well worth it. All pcps will need service eventually and shipping to and from your house will cost almost as much as the repair. Most of us airgunners are spread out and if he can help you tune and trouble shoot the rifle, it really can be a huge advantage probably worth the extra cash. If he can't help you with service, I would go with the cheapest price.

If your buying a Crown ...... I don't think it is going to hurt anybodies feelings where you buy. They sell too fast right now. Heck I've been waiting since April for a blue one. Ya.... I'm still waiting! Don't worry I have been supporting the shop out East for you.

If your worried about warranty, AOA is still the only warranty center in the US for FX.

Im sorry but unless money is not an issue I would go for the less expensive one. Thats a lot of pellets you could get especially when you consider the 4th tin is free with some online companies. I feel bad for the local guy also but money is money and it is not your fault his price is that much higher. Consider yourself an informed shopper making good financial choices for yourself.

For most of us that have a Crown finding a local shop is difficult I think there are less the 10 in USA. If your close fine but I think for warranty they all go back to the distributor AOA in Phoenix. That’s were I got mine no sales tax but $35 for shipping, the stores all charge the same but I have found dealers who will give you a big brake on accessories when you buy a rifle from them. 180$ plus 3 hours there and 3 hours back?
If that is the case your probably looking more like 220$ give or take a little according to what you drive plus your time investment.I totally support local shops when possible but unless he's willing to come off the additional 70$ to be in line with other sellers it just wouldn't be worth it to me over ordering online.
Now if he was the only seller and it's what you wanted that would be a different story.
I do tend to get in a I gotta have it right now attitude in which the price difference wouldn't matter if it's what i want and I could have it that day.:)
