When is humidity too high to use HPA compressor to charge SCBA tank?

Well, It's been raining pretty good here in Columbus, GA lately. But today, it's sunny and I'd kind'a like to bring my SCBA (66 cu.ft. tank) up to 4500 psi while I have a chance. It's at about 3800 psi right now, so it shouldn't take long.

Accuweather, on my cell phone, says the temp now is 71 and humidity is 24%.

Think it's okay to run the HPA compressor now?

At what humidity / temp would you not? This AM the humidity was 45% and 61 degrees, so I've waited.

wow, 24 is beautiful .. anything below 50 i would say is golden .. you cant avoid moisture but what you 'dont' want to do is try to use a pump with humidity like at 70+ .. a good dehumidifier in the house can help .. the tank itself imo isnt an issue, i dont care if alittle water gets in the tank, turn it up and purge it, and use a seperator 'between' the tank and the gun if your worried about it .. people making these huge complex filter apparatuses between the pump and the tank is the wrong approach lol .. its the gun we dont want water in lol ..

..the compressor and pumps though are what i worry about more than anything, and if you do to what i do now for example, is ive got on youtube and learned how to rebuild my benjamin handpump .. once you know the tear-down procedure and what needs tightening alittle and what doesnt its easy to break it down after use, dry it, lube it and check everything over before putting it away .. takes 10 minutes ..and it will last a very long time doing that .. same really for a compressor imo, once you know it you can clean it up so it doesnt corrode between uses .. not for everybody maybe but thats me ..

It depends on your compressor for one thing. But using your example, I would never be able to use a compressor here in FL. Just do what 18.13 said and purge it more than you would normally.

I use my compressor at 55-65% humidity. I purge the system every five minutes when in use. I also change out the tiny Yong Heng filter every twenty minutes and use a Tuxing three media filter which is still werqing after a year. When I replaced the valve in one of my tanks after a year of use it showed no sign of moisture being in it.

Humidity does make a difference but you can filter it out.

Add a better filter if needed to be sure more moisture and any oil smell is removed from the system. Many of us use this Tuxing three media filter although, if you feel the need, you can change media types at any time.

A smaller one will probly do for some.

Possibly add a filter similar to this if humidity is high in your area or your desiccant filters have to be replaced too often.

Compressor type? If it's a Yong Heng don't push it all the way to 4500psi. 4200-4300 is just fine. Your compressor will thank you!

My compressor is an Air Venturi 4500 PSI HPA compressor. I used it today to take my 66 cu.ft. SCBA tank from 3800 to 4500. Had no problem at all. I didn't time it, but I didn't take long. The auto-shutoff worked just fine. I never leave it unattended. I bled it several times along the way.
