Wind drift is higher once you get past 950fps…. I also have found that the G7 model works really well for me haha. But beyond that I agree with you fully.

That depends on the drag model, BC, and distance that you are shooting. For shorter distances, you are correct, but for most any airgun slugs, once you get out to 500 or 600yds, a muzzle velocity of 1000fps will have less wind drift than at 950fps.

When shooting at 200+yds, with an RA4 BC of .120, as typical of a 22 rimfire, even 1060fps will give a little less wind drift than at 950fps.

Hunting for me. I'm shooting a 30 caliber 62.5g slug @ 1000 fps / 139 fpe so at 250 yards I can still have enough energy to take down a coyote (66 fpe @ 250 yards....minimum recommended for coyote is 50 fpe) other than that just awesome seeing poop explode when slug impacts instead of just seeing a little hole appear.

Hey I’m setting up my Karma EQ for the same purpose but only out to about 150y since I pretty much only hunt them at night.

I bet the thwack on that is amazing.

I would love to be able to use thermal or night vision to hunt coyote at night here but illegal in Arizona. Can't even have illuminated reticles :-(
I use a redlight on my Notos backyard night time pesting ....I've been thinking about trying more powerful redlight for yotes at night, need to find one that can throw good light at at least 50 yards.

Oh go on Amazon there are a lot of decent light options. I bought one for like $40 that has red, green and white bulbs that you can change out. With narrow focus I’ve caught eye shine out to 150y easy. I actually scan that way and when I see something I turn the scope on (the Zulus has a great standby mode) and go from there.

I didnt realize y’all had California laws for NV down there. I’m just in Saint George and get invited to hunt the strip sometimes. Haha I’ll probably pass on it for now.

Yes, that is a fact, not a feeling or supposition. BC is NOT a fad, and there is no downside.

There are and have been members on AGN that do not believe that a better BC means less wind drift for a given speed. They also have this misguided belief that the Earth is Flat, and that the Moon Missions never happened...

Wait what…moon missions never happened? I never got that memo!

I think that about sums it up. Additional factors: 1) Ted made a video getting his best accuracy at 1100fps, 2) The South African crew (often, but not always) showcases very hot slug tunes. One of them recently discovered the joys of light 21gr slugs so it has been nice to see that make it into the rotation.

Harsh shot cycle, low shot count, and extensive power mods don't appeal to me. You don't have to shoot over 1000fps to gain the benefits slugs offer vs pellets. 950fps vs 1050 fps is a ~50bar reg increase! I've personally been having fun seeing what I can get out of slugs in the 650fps range.

i used to shoot 17.5 gr nsa with notos at 740 with great results
