WHAT'S THE WORST "What's the Best " QUESTION?

I spent a good year or more here and GTA learning like a MF and never asked a question. I wasn’t too lazy to search and scroll through page after page. Using that process I quickly learned who was who and the legit who’s got PM’s from me. Guys like R Sterne, Knifemaker and Motorhead always responded and helped. The whole best gun, pellet or scope thing always raises an eyebrow for me though. I absolutely do not care what everyone else likes. Recommendation’s I understand.

You have to start some where. I started 3 1/2 years ago. Knew Jack about guns. My buddy (mentor) taught me valuable info. He despised .177. All my rifles were .22, .25 and 1- .30. cal. springers before I joined this forum.
I’m sure I’m guilty about repetitive questions, but sometimes a thought goes through your head and you jump on in.
There’s only x amount of info, it’s a vicious circle.
I for one am very grateful for the info and pics that’s been shared on this forum. Blows me away the guns I missed in my hibernation. And to be honest I don’t hold a candle to probably every guy that posted before me as far as Air gun knowledge. So again, can’t thank you enough.
You sure as hell cost me enough reading about all the goodies though.
I’m thankful I have no interest in PCP. I’d need another room. Hope this helps. Crow

...kinda agree with the theme of the question, but sometimes a little initial direction can help new enthusiasts?

I get the jist of the OPs post, but am also willing to cut someone some slack depending on how the formulate the rest of the post. If just ask what's the best airgun and don't qualify it then OP is right - the post is a waste of everyone's time.

BUT - maybe the person is really new to airguns and doesn't know the right questions to ask. In which case a polite reply prompting them to answer a few basic questions can lead to a helpful thread for them. If not, then the thread just dies.

BUT - maybe they do qualify what they are looking for a bit and some ar$e$ on here just reply - why don't you just google it? Then I feel like they may be turned off before they ever get a chance to really join the hobby.

So just my opinion - nothing wrong with asking for what's the best xyz to use for A with a budget of B in scenario C. If I got 10 different replies on what is 'the best' I know those are all opinions, but they lead me to make a better educated decision.

Always two sides to a story. Peace out.

You forgot one- best guns to impress the chicks!!

As with most endeavors, getting started in the airgun hobby can be challenging. So, I understand why many folks new to it might be overwhelmed with "stuff", and feel the need for a very broad request for direction. The "worst" such request will always be debatable, and no opinion here should be considered as a criticism of those folks asking questions. IMO, asking about the "best rifle" is among the most difficult questions to try to answer, as there are so many variables involved.

I'm ALL FOR HELPING MEMBERS HERE new and old. I love being of service & sharing the things I've learned if it aids in any way. I've done it to the benefit of MANY here. I just hit my limit today with the inane "gotta get my 10 posts" questions. You guys who responded are great! The "wipe my arse" question almost made my coffee exit through my nose!!!:ROFLMAO:(y)

My turn to RANT! I'm so tired of seeing these "What's the Best " questions! There is/are NO BEST! There are simply too many variables to answer a SUBJECTIVE question with a QUANTITATIVE answer!!! All of these "What's the Best "questions ridiculously waste time as the answers depend on situational application, shooter's acumen, style preference, etc, etc, etc. I get that the inexperienced are looking for the quickest/cheapest route to the perfection they're seeking but are DEPRIVING themselves of the invaluable learning experience of getting to intimately know their gun's capabilities & quirks as well as their own. Besides, two exact same rifles might perform completely differently in the same situation. Just one the idiosyncrasies of airguns that we had to learn through the school of hard knocks & personal experience. So, WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GAIN EXPERIENCE? Trial/Error/Cost of Pellets & Mental & Physical labor, THAT'S my answer. Wish people would EMBRACE the labor, cost, & trial & error of this activity as to gain the INVALUABLE personal knowledge/experience that they'll be rewarded with instead of looking for the EASY WAY & ANSWERS. Besides, the answers you get probably won't work for you anyway! It's not the DESTINATION, it's the JOURNEY to it that provides the KNOWLEDGE!!! Good Luck to all on this journey.
I agree with you their is no substitute for experience but it is nice to get pointed in the right direction when you have no idea where to start
