FX Whats the point of the FX Impact Compact?

I've noticed that many people are opting for the compact version and then adding a moderator to reduce the noise, effectively making it the same length as the standard 600mm barrel.

However, this approach also means sacrificing some air cylinder capacity, which could end up being more expensive in the long run than simply purchasing the standard model from the start.

Could someone explain if there are any other factors that might influence the decision to choose the compact version over the standard one? It's worth mentioning that the compact model doesn't come with a moderator when purchased new, either.

I think it depends on the individual’s primary use. Personally, I would consider a compact version just because it can get crowded in a blind with two people, gear, and other guns. The compact would allow less clutter and make it easier to adjust to get into a good position in a tight space. I can also see this being beneficial if you are hunting varmints out of a truck bed with a camper shell and want to shoot out the sides and not only the back. With the Impact, it seems you can always swap out a barrel and a tank if you want another option. That's the reason I am so interested in the Impact because it's more of a modular platform than just a single gun.

I actually agree that the compact is almost useless. The standard is $100 more than the compact only. Also the standard comes with a basic can moderator with $50. Compact comes with no moderator so you have to buy a moderator. Only really a $50 difference.

I bought a compact and wish I wouldve gotten standard one. Bought donnyfl yokozuna for my compact m4 and from testing. A fx m3 with cheap can moderator is more quiet vs my compact m4 with expensive donnyfl yokozuna. Also it made the gun almost as long as standard size.

For me impact compact is the best configuration! Short, light and every bit as good as standard or long impacts unless you want to shoot really heavy ammo for whatever reason. So good is the compact, all three of my impacts are now in compact form or some kind.
What moderator are you using to quiet the compact m4 down? I have the donnyfl yokozuna and its louder than a standard m3 with the cheap can moderator. Also now its almost as long as the standard size too. 1-2 inches shorter only.

Are you sure you’re not wasting air? All three of my Impacts are slug guns. None wear a mod longer than 4.25 inches.

My compact is using home made 4 inch moderator and it’s more than quiet enough. It’s is 22 cal shooting 22g slugs at 940fps with reg at 160b because I’m too lazy to take out the tungsten hammer.

25 cal is louder just because opening is bigger, but I would try higher reg pressure like around 145 with factory hammer.
Interesting. My 22 Compact is shooting a 22gr 955fps at 145b. No hot rod mods. But I do use an L-tech.

Ok thanks I will try higher reg and lower the hammer down closer to 3. Would this use more air? And hopefully be more quiet?

145b is a sweet spot for factory hammer with about the most power we can get out of impact. With higher reg and heavy hammer I can easily get over 1000fps with the 22 grain slugs.

It does not necessary use more air, it does reduce the delta between your fill pressure and reg pressure but you have less tank pressure drop per shot because there is more energy at higher pressure. In the end I still get 1 mag or about 30 shots per fill and don’t even fill all the way to 250 bars.
