What's the best first pcp air rifle for hunting?

The 400cc can is about $160.00, and I am getting about 50 consistent shot before it falls off the regulator. I cleaned the barrel made sure no burrs, redid the crown and the stock barrel will handle the slugs no change needed. Cleaned up the trigger by shaving it a little and polishing it for smoothness. Placed larger o-ring on the airstrippper to seal it better, and ported the shroud at the base like Hajimoto did and it absolutely quieted the bark even more. As well adjusted the regulator to 2100 psi. Most tuners will charge $150 to $300 from what I have gathered. So for you if you're comfortable doing all of that about $160.00 for the larger airtank. Oh I also worked on the cocking mechanism cuz it's a little STIFF at first.

Sounds like you turned that gauntlet into a beast of an airgun. I'll definitely be making some of these modifications if I end up getting the gauntlet. thank you for the valuable info!

Manny, I have both rifles but my Gauntlet is in .177. I will match my Gauntlet accuracy against most higher end rifles. I shoot Field Target with a RAW .177, so I know about accuracy. With that said, my .177 barrel on the Gauntlet is VERY thin and subject to bumping out of alignment easily. Not a good gun for any hunting or pest work. The trigger is also not the best on the Gauntlet. I don't know if the .25 Gauntlet has the same issues.

My .25 Marauder has a great trigger out of the box. Not a competition trigger like my RAW but a very nice hunting trigger. My Marauder is about 3 years old so it has a Green Mountain barrel in it and the accuracy is very good. Again, not $2000 gun accurate but good enough for hunting scenarios. I have, like most, occasionally made 3 shot 100yds 1" groups but I shoot mostly out to about 50 yards with it to be humane. I have never had a POA/POI issue with it but it is not regulated, of course. Very capable for most games you are looking to hunt.

You will not be sorry with a .25 Marauder and it is a very sturdy hunting gun.

Hope this helps.

Can’t go wrong with a used fx streamline/royale in 22/25. Both of my streamlines are deadly accurate

Where would you recommend looking for a used one at? would definitely be interested if the price is right

Check out the Member Classifieds here. You never know what you might come across. Also, check the Pre-Owned airguns from AOA, Edgun West and other dealers. If you're already planning to spring for a regulator for the Marauder, you might want to up your budget for a better gun. Be patient, save your pennies and look around.

My 1st PCP was a Marauder in .22. I "liked" it, not a love affair, never got it to give me what I wanted accuracy-wise. Even with all the adjustments I did. Next I got a Hatsan AT44, .22.

THAT GUN imho was way more to my liking than the Mrod. More accurate, just as quiet, flatter trajectory & more power. Don't hear much about Hatsan in this forum but for "entry level" pcp's that's what I would go with. Easier loading mag, side lever as opposed to bolt. It just suited me better at the time & gave me what I wanted. Watch some of Hunter One's earlier videos. You'll see what I mean.

I've heard that the .22 marauder was inaccurate at times, not sure why. What kind of groups were you getting and at what distance? What adjustments did you do to it? Do you think it could be the type of pellet you were using? I've heard a lot of good things about the at44 as well. I considered it but it seemed like the marauder had more positive reviews. Is it actually as quiet as the marauder? I've heard that the marauder is deadly quiet. Sorry about all the questions lol, I really want to make sure I get the best first pcp for me. definitely reconsidering the at44 now

In my opinion,You will be happy with either the .25 Marauder OR Umarex Gauntlet as your "..FIRST pcp air rifle for hunting." And if you want to save even More money (NOT a bad thing!) look into a Refurbished model. Generally speaking, the refurbs have been gone over with a fine tooth comb by the manufacturer. Two of my Best shooting rifles,.177 Gauntlet and .22 Kral Puncher Pro, were purchased as refurbs. No problems and Very nice shooters!

Hope this helps You and best of luck!!

Mike.

Sounds good, I don't think I would mind a refurbished one at all. Where did you find your refurbished ones at? thanks!

I agree, the gauntlet is an amazing gun for the price. Is there anywhere that I might be able to find a crown for a lower price? I don't mind if its used. I just discovered the Diana today and it's looking like it could be a new competitor. I'll do more research on it before I come to a conclusion. Have you ever shot a diana outlaw at all?

Best bet for finding a used fx at good price is to save a search on eBay. Enter keywords, set price range, and choose how to be notified when something is listed. Maybe look for a streamline? (bit lower in price range).

As for the outlaw. I have not shot one. Unfortunately, I don't know a single person that has any airguns other than the junk they sell at Walmart. But if it's anything like my pistol, I'd be a real winner. Check the reviews, and ask around on here. 👍 Good luck

For refurb guns, check pyramid air every couple days, they have a pretty large selection

Each group was a full mag (12). The bottom was after I adjusted the velocity from 940-ish (top) to 880 using JSB 18.13's.

And below is my "Lowly" .177 Gauntlet and a 10 round group at 45 yds using JSB 10.34's...

Moral of the story, Don't be scared of refurbs. You dont necessarily need to spend Well in excess of $1000.00 to get a rifle that will get the job done!

Yeah, I've heard about the issues with the gauntlet being bumped out of zero due to it's lack of support. 1 inch groups at 100 yards should be very suitable for me as most shots I take are a bit under that. I've also heard that the crosman barrel performs very similar to the Green Mountain which is good to hear. thanks for the information, you've definitely been a help!

Just set the ebay notifications right now! I've been doing some research on the outlaw and have heard nothing but good things about it so far. Definitely a new competitor. Got it, I'll check pyramid air frequently and other sites as well. Thank you for your help!

I'm not familiar with the .25 Gauntlet but did set up a .25 Mrod for a friend. It got 30 accurate shots at 40yds use the predator pellets. One of the 1st pcp to like the predator pellets. It was a thumper.

I've heard a lot of good things about the marauder. Glad to hear that it takes predators as I've heard that they're great for hunting. Thanks!

I'll look around on those sites to see if I can find a good deal on a good gun. your rifles look like they're great shooters and I've heard about the kral before. I'll do some more research on it to see if it could be another possible contender. You definitely got me interested in the refurbished category now. thank you!
