What's in your pack?

When you go hunting what do you take with you?

The appeal of the sidepack to me is the ability to put the 90ci tank in the water bottle holder. I don't generally need anything bigger to carry supplies. I take a tin of pellets, a slingshot, some 10mm steel BBs for the slingshot and my gun. It would be interesting to see what other people carry. Here's my full list:

1 x Mg Firestarter
1 x lighter
1 x Knife
2 x 1L ziplock bag
1 x pair rubber gloves
1 x slingshot
36 x 10mm Steel BBs
1 x tin of .25 cal pellets (as needed)
1 x tin of .22 cal pellets (as needed)
1 x tin of .177 cal pellets (as needed)
0-4 CO2 powerletts (as needed)
1 x 90ci carbon wrap HPA tank
1 x HPA fill assembly
1 x Monocular
1 laminated cheat-sheet with pictures of various squirrels and critters that are permitted to hunt with airguns in Wa.
1 x water bottle
2 x granola bars
1 x headlamp

Sometimes I'll take my little Beretta CO2 PX4 Storm pistol so I'll bring some CO2 powerlets too.

Here's my pack:

Do you really take three different sized pellets with you? Why? Do you carry three different caliber pellet guns when you go hunting?

What about a rangefinder? I'm impressed that you also carry a slingshot. How effective is it when hunting and how do you use it? I also carry my Guppy in my pack. Fits quite well. Compass and a camera.

I carry a slingshot because 1) it's fun to shoot 2) I figure in the apocalypse, both airguns and firearms will only last as long as there's supplies to maintain them. So a slingshot will be far more useful. It's surprising to me how accurate it can be with just a little bit of practice. 3) It's quiet and with a 10mm projectile it's dangerous. Seriously, it would mess you up.

I only carry the pellets I need. I updated the list to reflect that.

I have a nice compass somewhere. I had it when I was part of Yakima's Search and Rescue team. My wife put it somewhere and ironically, no matter how much I search, I've yet to find it.

2 things I carry everywhere I go regardless of hunting or not are a very sharp knife and a concealed pistol!! I also carry first aid and survival gear in all of my vehicles.

For hunting I try to carry as little as possible.
1. Side arm
2. Knife
3. Loaded clips and a few extra pellets per the gun I take
4. Depending on gun, I might carry my guppy tank, but rarely
5. Canteen or bottled water
6. Nuts, dehydrated fruits, or jerky
7. Toilet paper!!
8. Small flashlight
9. Charged cell phone.

When small game hunting, I wear a game vest and carry large ziplocks for the carcass of edible game as I usually gut animals in the woods as I make a kill. Mainly because tree squirrels become rather difficult to skin as they cool, so I do it immediatley.

ztirffritzI agree with most of what you and others have listed for carrying for hunting. I would like to add at least two items I am surprised were not listed! (Unless in the video I did not watch) I would suggest a FIRST AID KIT. There is many situations that arise in the field when hunting that this would come in handy especially if doing a remote trip. Second is a quality blood light for tracking a wounded game animal. This is imperative in my book. Nothing shames a hunter more then loosing a wounded animal that craws off and dies. The best I found is the Primos Blood Hunter HD. Here is a link to it on Amazon

I have used this since they came out and were over $100.00 This is with out a doubt the best blood tracking device I have used to date. Using air rifles on larger game like deer can produce non pass through shots with little blood. This thing can save your bacon getting the tiny blood drops to glow.. I shot a lg 7 point buck two years ago with a black powder gun and it went into a thicket. It was just starting to rain and I saw no blood. My friend came to help me and brought this blood light. I could not see any blood with the rain and the little purple supposed blood light I had. He turned on the Primos HD and the whole area where the deer entered lit up red all over the place. The BP slug hit it in the heart but did not go through the body. This light is also good if you need an additional flashlight as it has two settings on it , high and low. This thing really=y lights up the woods at night...Trust me.. So ask for a blood light not Bud light........lol
