I recently saw another thread in here re: someone having good luck shooting Nielsen .216's @17.5g so I grabbed a box of them. They work much better in my AA. ( lighter + the AA is definitely a choked LW barrel ) I'm getting 865-875fps out of them @full power and they seem to be reasonably accurate - jury is still out as to weather or not they're as accurate as the jsb 16g pellets that I typically shoot with that gun. That gun is a laser with those.
I guess my question(s) are -- if this is the best I can get (speedwise) out of this gun with these (quite light for slugs) . . . should I just resign myself to the fact that this AA is "only" a pellet shooter? I mean I can run 18 gr jsb pellets which are HEAVIER than these slugs but in theory ( or maybe not theory - proven) less efficient beyond 70-80 yards. Beyond 70-80 yards is the main reason for my wanting to play with slugs - just to see / play / learn how to shoot at longer distances. I've taken several pigeons and starlings at 70'ish yards with the 16g jsb's ( conditions permitting - little if any wind ) so I know I can do it at that distance.
