What pellets for 1720T?

I have a project gun I'm working on, it's a shortened disco tubed rifle with a 1720t barrel that's shrouded and baffled. I'm sure I'm not getting any clipping, but I've only tired 10.34 hades and 7.9 cphp.

The crosmans group better than the jsb hades, but neither are anything to write home about. Before I go buying a bunch of 177s to try, which pellets do you shoot out of your 1720? I've got mine doing around 15 fpe.

I've had great luck with standard crosman 177 barrels and jsb 8.44 in 4.52mm head size. Thought about starting there.

Use and test what you have first! If the 8.44's do not work (that would be weird) I would start of with a .177 pellet sampler pack in JSB and H&N to cover all your bases.

Those the 10.5? I was thinking those would be my next stop. Not wanting to dump a hunch of money on 177 pellets since I only have one gun in that caliber. Cphp are giving me about quarter size groups with some fliers out to 40.

10.34gr JSb. Heavy pellet makes easier power, and squeaks out some extra shots over a lighter pellet. The 8.44 and 10.34 both perform seller in the 5 or so 1720s I've used. But I prefer heavies.

Funny the 10.34s are worse than the standard 7.9 crosmans

I've tried JSB: 10.34s, 7.87s and 8.44s from mine, all are very accurate.
I've also tried the H&N FTT 8.64 and they were also very accurate.

The barrel in my 1720T doesn't seem to be very fussy or picky.

Out of mine, polymags are a literal laser to somewhere between 25 and 30. After that point they go apepoop. It's sudden and not subtle.

AA 10.34 grs work well in mine and others. They are not cheap.

When I was shooting a 1720T for PFT I used the 10.34 grainers with pretty good success. I know several excellent PFT shooters doing the same.

I shoot mine from the bench at up to 50 yards. I use bags and looking through swfa 10x scope. Bstaley mod shooting 8.4 pellets in the 750-770 range for perspective. It likes the usual suspects, aa/jsb in 10.34, 8.4 and 7.33 for the jsb. Also shoots the h&n ftt 8.64 in 4.52mm well. But the winner by a good margin is the aa falcon 7.33. I read here where another member recommended these for the 1720 and he was spot on.

Could be that a certain head size is needed. Search for a sampler pack on eBay: “H&N .177 Target Pellet Variety Sampler, Field Target Trophy & Baracuda Match”
