When sighting, is it proper to use full magnification? I usually sight in around 8× at 25yds. "I'm using a ffp scope, the question is in general. "

I I am no expert your but I'm pretty sure if you are using ffp it shouldn't matter what magnification you use . Your zero stays the same at all magnifications. If it was sfp then it would make a difference ..

I zero in with my maximum power on a hunting rifle. I zero in at my second zero. On my air rifles that is usually about 33 yards. This is dependent on trajectory and scope over bore height My first and second zeros are chosen as to allow me to hold on both zeros and not be more than 1/4 inch high in between. That will give me hold on poa from a few yards before first zero and a few yards past second zero. Well,my 3-18 x 50 I use the 10 setting. The 2-7x32 the 7 and the 3-9x40 the 7. 2nd plane scopes. Aztec/Hawke/Hawke. I have a Rex straight up 4x 32 AO on my 22 break barrel. Keep it simple stupid has it's advantages. I can't use the armchair app or what ever magic gizmos and mathmatics. I no longer posses certain higher cognisant nuances like memory and numbers so I take my sighting shots with whatever pellet is the flavor of the day.Guestimate my holdover/holdunder from that and relax and enjoy.Seems to be working out so far.

Somewhere between 8.26 and 8.39 with at least one pinky extended depending on the lunar phase.

Your talking about zeroing the scope so I'm taking it for granted your using the cross hairs on zero correct, then it wouldn't matter if it's a first focal plain or a second focal plain scope the cross hairs will always stay the same no matter what power the scope is on, so whatever power YOU can see the target and the pellet impact best with would be your answer.

50 yards, 10x magnification, SFP scope. Works for me. With FFP (as stated before) wherever I can see POI comfortably.

FFP whatever you need to see the distance good I go 10x then to 14 to fine tune usually seems to work for me
