Here in Ohio, mourning doves are shotgun only for some ridiculous reason.Above posts are correct. If you see Doves with a lateral black band around back of neck those are Collared Doves, an invasive species and fair game. Mourning Doves have to be in season to be taken.

They're considered migratory birds, so shotgun only, like waterfowl. Here in Ohio, mourning doves are shotgun only for some ridiculous reason.
Until you have a mockingbird, or even better, a brown thrasher. They make so many calls its crazy. The thrashers are very entertaining. I have 2 mated pairs living in my honeysuckle/English ivy on my fence row, and they just sing all day. They even have calls for birds from other continents that they can't possibly have had contact with in the modern age.I have an app called Merlin Bird ID that I use when hunting and want to know what bird I'm seeing or hearing(it can record and recognize calls).
It works really well and is free.
