The first and second are white crowned sparrows, not too prevalent.....they eat the peanut butter off of my bait station! They are larger and rounder than HOSP's, very cool species, NON INVASIVE species, please do not shoot these. They are usually very skittish but have gotten used to me plinking in my back yard and stay around as I plink away.

1&2 are white crowned sparrow, native to CA.

3 is mourning dove, also native and have season here in CA.

Yes they are 'white crowned sparrows' do NOT shot them, please,
here in Nebr I have White crowned sparrows , Harris sparrows , Tree sparrows and House sparrows,, well I used to have lot of house sparrows, cat food now ,,,but rarely get HS anymore, but when I do,,, pop with a pcp
I have a bird ID book at the ready on my coffee table.

We have a bunch of finches that intermingle with the HOSP here in Missouri. I've got to the point of playing it safe and only shooting the male HOSPs since they're so easy to identify.

Grackles and starlings I shoot male or female, I don't discriminate on them for how they identify sexually.

I have an app called Merlin Bird ID that I use when hunting and want to know what bird I'm seeing or hearing(it can record and recognize calls).
It works really well and is free.
Until you have a mockingbird, or even better, a brown thrasher. They make so many calls its crazy. The thrashers are very entertaining. I have 2 mated pairs living in my honeysuckle/English ivy on my fence row, and they just sing all day. They even have calls for birds from other continents that they can't possibly have had contact with in the modern age.
Never even seen a brown thrasher till I started eliminating grackles and starlings in my yard. After 2 years of doing that, the first couple showed up. Hoping I can get more, I like them alot.
