What is wrong with people???

With all the hoopla surrounding this debate,I just purchased a refurbished Umarex Gauntlet in .177 which should be here next week. The distributor said that these rifles are sent to them directley from Umarex, where they have been refurbished.

I will Gladly share my findings with abject impartiality be they good, mediocre or downright aweful. Like the old line from Dirty Harry, "I gots to know!"

Mike.

There's plenty of Gauntlet reviews. Hajimoto's channel is a great source to see stock performance and modified and tuned performance. Southern Gunner has videos of his Gauntlet when he first received it vs after he made mods to it. Rick Rehn at Shooter1721 reviewed it. I would personally lean towards Southern Gunner and Hajimoto's experience. Haji has a Crown, Impact and other higher end guns so his reference is not one sided. Kenny (Southern Gunner), has high end guns too - He has more than 70 PCPs, does mods, builds custom guns so he is a good source of PCP performance. Personally, I have 2 FX Crowns, Royale 400, Streamline, a RAW, Cricket Carbine 25, Ataman 30 cal and some highly modified PCPs. I own both Gauntlets. I sent my 22 cal to Haji for some mods and I can say that mine is a great shooter that is very accurate out to 65 yards. I plink with it far longer at out to 130-140 yards.

What I don't understand is why do all these people feel like they have to come to Ted's defense? He's a grown man and been in the business a long time. He can defend himself against criticism.

JB - well said and thanks!

Blackdiesel - you’re right that Hajimoto and others have shown what the Gauntlet can do. Hajimoto has been a class act through this little “controversy”. The whole point behind my original point was that Ted never said that THE Gauntlet was a bad gun, but that HIS Gauntlet was bad. But people lost their minds and and started overreacting and I guess I thought the whole thing was a little nuts. lol

Hopefully this issue will get taken care of, I like to read or watch reviews and it doesn’t matter who’s doing the review it helps me decide on what I want to do but when a person does a review and is beat down for THIER honest opinion that doesn’t sit well with me that’s why we discuss things not just start bashing the person doing the review, like it was said maybe the reviewer got a lemon or maybe the product is just really that bad but if this is what owners of this product are like I want nothing to do with them, I’m waiting on a .25.

just my 2cents.

Need to add that I am on the waiting list for a .25 Gauntlet and can’t wait to get it.

There's a lot of hero worshipping of Ted and a lot of anti-Ted people. I don't know how long you been around AGN but this was originally his forum and he was a regular contributor when it first started. When some people said some stuff that hurt his feelings he turned it over to Michael. Anytime he deals with anything other than FX, he is going to get criticized because a lot of people feel he's being fake. FX sends him guns to review and they are always great. You can look on this forum to see that a lot of people also have problems with FX guns. The first year the Impact was released there was major problems with it leaking and other problems. I have a friend who ordered one and it came leaking and under-powered.

What I took from the debate was that one-sided was of the opinion of "How dare you talk bad about Ted" and the other side was that Ted is a corporate "whore" paid by FX and his motives were to make the Gauntlet look bad."

I have seen so much politics in the airgun business that I just do my own thing. I don't jump on any of the hype trains that run through the business on a regular basis.

Balckdiessel - In my mind, the response from Umerex was unprofessional on the other videos. Southern Gunner already removed his, but others are still up. Umerex's social media team really didn't help the matter. At this point, JB from Umerex is gaining control of the situation from their side.

So far as I'm concerned, matter closed. Whether I buy another Umerex product may be determined by the professionalism shown by Umerex's social media team in the future. Others have a different opinion. To me, it's not the gun itself, every manufacturer has quality issues, no matter how expensive, but the reaction to being called out on QC issues. Umerex's reaction took some management involvement to get right.

I think this is all on track now to be fixed one way or another. Whether Ted gives the gun a fair shake or not to me is immaterial, it's the corporate response that counts.

I’ve been around here almost 2 years and I knew this used to be Ted’s forum but didn’t know the circumstances surrounding him turning it over to Michael.

I certainly don’t worship any YouTube “celebrities” but I am in awe of the skills of guys like Matt Dubber and Ted’s videos were always fun to watch.

Those of us who have Gauntlets and have followed posts about them on not only this site but many others, know that one of the problem areas is its hard cocking bolt (on some guns).

That problem is easily fixed by taking the bolt out and going over it and its chamber with some wet and dry sandpaper to smooth out the rough spots. Many have said that hard cocking will go away with use only.

The Gauntlet can be a rough diamond with some work. I smoothed out the bolt and chamber one mine, added a Jefferson poppet kit for more efficient air transfer and added a spring to the existing spring to the moderator at the end of the barrel to secure it to keep the POI in check. All it took was a slight bump to the barrel to alter the POI considerably. Barrel bands were designed that attached to the air bottle, but I found the air bottle itself likes to move around and take the shroud and thus the barrel with it. My solution seemed to work for me the best.

Running a swab up and down the barrel with JB bore compound also improved accuracy and some trigger polishing cleaned that area up too. I polished every trigger on every gun I ever owned so this was not unique.

Teddy boy most certainly has the skill and know how to do these things, but he got a lemon and reported on it as an out of the box gun. That is too bad. A good Gauntlet with a Ted review would have been interesting and even more interesting to see if he found the same things that many of the Gauntlet owners have run across.

So instead of giving up on the gun, with the TLC I gave it, it sometimes out shoots my Daystate.

I wasn't accusing you of worshiping him, but just pointing out that some of his fans act like that and if anyone says anything negative about him they go overboard. On the flipside some people just don't like him. I think he's entertaining and I like his hunting videos. But for me the real authorities on PCPs are people like Cedric (Toufazfou), Doug Noble, Bob Sterne and a few others. But since he wants to compare a Gauntlet to a Royale, I would say he should compare one of his tuned FX to a custom built gun. Comparing a FX, Daystate or any consumer PCP to Cedric's custom built 172, 375. 7mm or 257 cal custom built slug shooters is like comparing a Gamo Bone Collector to a FX Crown.

I’d like to see that comparison.

Though, I think the point of Ted’s comparison wasn’t to trash cheaper guns but to show the difference in features between budget and high end. Sort of like comparing a Chevy to an Audi. They both get you from A to B but you’re paying extra for goodies like build quality, creature features, etc. Those extras may or may not be worth it for you depending on your needs.

I'd also like to see the comparison between the Gauntlet, Fortitude, then compare against the FX to see what the $300 gun gives you and what you give up. The premise of comparing $300 to $1500 guns is intriguing. Obviously, the Crown better NOT be a diamond in the rough, it should be a completely finished and SHINING. The less expensive guns, should have somewhat lower expectations. As said, Chevy and Audi both get you from point A to Point B, but what's the real difference? I really would like to know.

UMAREX what a bunch of bologna ,there comments just turned many off from possible buying from them ,no need to publicly stepping in it,,should of done what we see other decent companies due and try and make it right TEDS video was a little sketchy to why make a video just to bad mouth a product ,i think he would have been better off by holding off on the video until the issues were resolved ,,name calling shows somes true colors not worth it pat

I started commenting on STKO's video. Basically telling him that he's in a hissy fit due to another man's opinion. He looked up to Ted, and Ted didn't like his gun. So he want's Ted publicly hanged... He then responded with a somewhat threatening comment. Saying, "You don't know me, I suggest you keep your comments to yourself" which of course fueled me to talk back. Then I noticed SG's comment, encouraging STKO to keep up these videos because "Then people will know Ted is full of poop and stop watching his videos". Of course, I had to say something to him as well. I started out being very respectful, Then SG comes back with "I'm a millionare, retired SF sniper, with $50k worth of airguns, I don't need to prove the poop I'm saying, I'm a sniper." Well, I happen to know a couple actual SF members that are let's say, close to home... They don't boast about their titles, they actually go great lengths to conceal their titles.. They have Pride. And neither of them are paid well enough to be millionares, So I called him a Trust fund baby. Immediately after, he became so upset, He called me an evil racist. Said I wouldn't be saying this to him if he were a white man. LIterally the comment before the last one, I told the man that I respected him. Anyway, So I called him out on his BS, and I'm automatically a racist.. He then gets all his friends to send me threatening emails. and blew up my youtube channel with nasty comments. He's a very silly, childish old man. And he's full of baloney. I respect that he got wise and took down his hate video, he also took down his comment on STKO's video. Wise move. But he's still a cry baby. STKO, he's just a jealous child.

I used to watch that fool stko, the guy is a complete asshat. All his videos have clickbait titles like hes onto some special secret all the time. Had to unsub it wasnt fun trolling the poor dimwit after a while. Him and sg definitely ride each others nuts.

I cant even watch a video of his or hear him talk without throwing up in my mouth a little.

I'm just going to side with the main stream news media talking heads when they talk about anything they don't want anyone to hear about, learn about or get more of an opinion about ...

"IT'S ALL RUSSIAN BOTTS, AND THERE IS NOTHING TO SEE HERE. IF THERE IS SOMETHING TO SEE HERE IT IS ILLEGAL SO DON'T LOOK ANYWAY"

I'll smile maybe even giggle a little and move on about my own business.

(Thank you to the guy on here from Umarex I appreciate you being professional)

I myself have personally called the guy from STKO when he posted this video. https://youtu.be/RiB41UxkKtw I was adult and professional and stated facts about the ST barrel but he shot me down and tried telling me that the barrel in his gantlet is just as accurate as a ST. And I agreed with him on part of his statement that yes they may preform equally in perfect conditions. No wind and controlled environment, but I said that the ST barrel is better when wind comes into the equation. He argued with me and said no they are equal. So I respectfully said that we will agree to disagree and told him to have a blessed day and that was the end of the conversation. What I gathered from talking to him was that I'm right you're not your just trying to down something because you have a higher end rifle than me.

I don't have a gantlet myself to compare to but certainly wouldn't mind if someone sent me one to test it out.

I guess if you watched my videos on my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWTJLXrOC-aam7BtmdqhpzQ The Lords Marksman. You would probably accuse me of "worshipping" Ted. No I do not Worship Ted that would be considered a false idol and God does not condone that. But with that being said I understand both sides of this subject/ childish call out my feelings got hurt conspiracy. But I think this is pathetic for grown men to go and try to down another man's self image.

That's just my 2 cents worth
