What is this thing?!? [SOLVED]

Hello friends!

I have an Evanix Giant select fire PCP. On the pressure gauge there appears to be some sort of thin film covering a port hole. It looks like it’s maybe been scratched off and then reapplied?

Could someone please explain the purpose of this piece of film.

It keeps the dust and water out of the gauge. If it leaks, it will vent there, and not blow the lens off.
