What Is There To Get Excited About In Spring Guns?

It wasn’t earth shattering, but Disna had a couple cool models at Shot Show featuring new ideas.

But yeah, would love to see innovative stuff come out too. Maybe even some refinement of older models.

Also, recently Vortek introduced a new gas ram that can be pumped to different power levels.

A pcp springer? Ha ha ha! We can’t get away from pre charged air! That’s actually a good idea I think as long as it doesn’t get too complicated or need “special” equipment to change the pressure. A discreetly placed quick connect to charge the ram and a simple bleed valve to let pressure out WITHOUT having to remove the action would be a possible winner in my book.

What ideas do you have when you say refinement of older models?

😂 No, not PCP silly. Was going to link here, but apparently they have put the project on hold/stop citing Covid19 supply Chain issues.

Basically it is an air spring that can have air added or removed to achieve the desired recoil. Then installed in your HW30. That was the only one made. They sold out rather quickly of the first batch. See below.

Tracking Updates.

Just ordered a .22 R9 refurb from PA. The shot count is Outstanding... and I've been wanting one for quite some time.

Springers have "soul" and make me Happy!

Mike

That would be exciting! Congratulations!

This is my .22 R9. It was my first “quality” spring gun bought back in 2007. It likes H&N FTTs in 5.53 or 54 head sizes best.

OK, here's what I'd get excited about and would seriously try to scrape funds together for:

25aa.svg
Recoil-reduced (= hold-insensitive), like a Diana 54/ 56

25aa.svg
Bullpup, 29" or shorter (synthetic stock)

25aa.svg
Really quiet (silencing contraptions like silencer and/or shroud must be factored into the 29" length)

25aa.svg
20—25FPE in .22cal

(I would be happy with 12FPE, but in that case the noise level must come down to "Marauder-quiet".

Otherwise, I guess a PCP easily can get me the excitement that the above characteristics provide — just with a dufflebag full of expensive support equipment and stuff that can and will go wrong....

THAT WOULD BE COOL! A springpup.

someone NEEDS to do this even if It just an action retro fit into a pup stock. Hmmm....

It’s a bit chilly here this morning (just thought I’d tell you that) and last weekend I put a new 4*12*40 Hawke Airmax on my Lgv. The original 4*12*40 Airmax on it was transferred to my Benjamin Titan so now all my airrifles have Airmax’s on them. I had mechanically centered the scope last weekend so this morning thought I’d sight it in. I put up a target a 10 meters and fired a pellet, looked pretty good so went to the 25 metre target. First two shots high and pretty well on the money, a couple of clicks and the next seven were on target.

Thing is this has never happened to me before so I guess that’s exciting. I’ve always had to make lots of adjustments to the scope and in most cases I’ve had to shim them as well. I guess we can get lucky sometimes.

That’s great Gary! Gotta love it when it works out like that. I recently (January) swapped out a Hawke 3-9x40 sport hd out fro the 4-12x40 Airmax. What a HUGE improvement! I am very pleased with my new Airmax. The thing is I have quite a few Hawke scopes and most of them, yes most of them, have had or do have an issue of some sort or another. I think I had sent 3 back to Hawke and they took care of the issues but it was a hassle so a couple others I never bothered to send in. With that, I’m actually thinking about buying another Hawke! When will I learn. Ha ha!

Patiently waiting for a new Giss power plant rifle from Diana. Opposing spring piston recoil less action.

That is what I'd like to see. A powerful springer that minimizes two way snap associated with springer guns. Something in .22cal with the impact of my Sig ASP20 (or more) and the recoil of a a Feinwerkbau 300S. It's nice to dream!

I am new to springers and really like the simplicity of them. I would like to tune mine or have them tuned and maybe get a tx200 and hw30 to round out my collection. I know this isn’t a spring gun but if a company would make a weihrauch quality shrouded multipump pneumatic in the $600 range I would be very interested.

Greenarrow I’m in the same boat as I have returned several Airmax’s to Hawke due to poi shifting problems. I had a 3*9*40 that when you adjusted the windage the rectical would move at a 45 degree angle. I have one lying around that I haven’t sent back also but I agree with your comment on the 4*12*40. I have three of them on airrifles and they are the bees knees.

Ron J had/has?? a rare SSP that is supposed to be 11-ish fpe, I can't remember the name of it. The cocking force required was insane!!! I cocked and shot it 2-3 times and said to myself NOPE I'm officially done trying this thing!

Even though this idea would basically be a firearm it'd be neat to see butane, propane, etc, be refined into a modern pellet/slug gun.

I'm completely at odds with springers in general. Though recoil- less has appeal to me. I like SSP much more but there's no way I'm tolerating hard cocking force to achieve power nor pumping a multi pump a bunch of times.

I kinda hate shooting my BP muzzleloader because it's such a ridiculous process to shoot the darn thing.

What I'm getting at is I want "simple". PCP's when filling from a tank is my only answer as far as AG's go, or just grab a rimfire.

I would like to see a pumper rifle that could be pumped three or four times and producing 750 - 800 fps in .20 and .22. Would buy one in a heartbeat.

I used to own a Mendoza 2800 with a pellet feed. It worked great. Never should have sold it. I'm looking for another. This would be a great old innovation that could be brought back. If was a manufacturer of rifles I'd offer models with it.

A SeeAll sight for 11mm dovetails would be excellent.

More companies offering .20 caliber and .25 caliber break barrels in the rifles they already produce.

Here the auto feeder on the Mendoza 2800. Was so sweet and was one of the best shooters. Kick myself for selling it.
