What Is There To Get Excited About In Spring Guns?

In the PCP world there is A LOT of cool stuff to get excited about with new mods and models coming out all the time it seems and a race to the top in performance.

What do us springer guys have to get excited about these days in the year 2020? What are you guys finding exciting and interesting in the World of the Springer?

Me? I’m still just finding simple joy in shooting what I have. I guess that I would like to see some new and interesting things come out but what? I really don’t know.

Mostly responding to posts like this :)

I'm really looking forward to buying a hw97 with laminate stock. I been wanting a 20 cal so bad for sooooooo long. I think it will be perfect for hunting and target use. I talked with Mike melick from flying dragon airguns and he said he can order me one for a great price and tune it up for me. I know there's alot of places to get it tuned but Mike did me right and sent me free seals one day and taught me how to work on my gun when I was green. I owe him a solid. I hope I can find a yellow jacket colored stock soon. Anyway all the best springer options have been around for a long time. Nothing new gets me excited.

It wasn’t earth shattering, but Disna had a couple cool models at Shot Show featuring new ideas.

But yeah, would love to see innovative stuff come out too. Maybe even some refinement of older models.

Also, recently Vortek introduced a new gas ram that can be pumped to different power levels.

A pcp springer? Ha ha ha! We can’t get away from pre charged air! That’s actually a good idea I think as long as it doesn’t get too complicated or need “special” equipment to change the pressure. A discreetly placed quick connect to charge the ram and a simple bleed valve to let pressure out WITHOUT having to remove the action would be a possible winner in my book.

What ideas do you have when you say refinement of older models?

That IS exciting Raden!!! Be sure to post about it with pictures once you get it in hand. It’s ALWAYS fun to get a new air rifle!

I am anxiously waiting on a 20 cal Diana 54. This will be a nice match to my 177. Also have a 48 coming soon, I guess I like side levers.

Congratulations!!!

.20 cal seems to be a choice that is growing in popularity recently. Is that just me or do you guys notice more posters opting/wanting .20?

I have never even handled a Diana gun. Or a Walther either. I started with HW and that’s just the route I continued in. I would like to shoot the Air King but I don’t really want to own one I guess? Maybe that would change if I actually had the chance to shoot it. I would definitely like to test drive one before I paid for it.

The Sig ASP 20 was innovative and cool. I held off a long time but was thoroughly impressed and enjoyed mine. I also have all the best to compare it to.

Yeah, that did catch my attention at first. I talked myself out of it though. It still sits at the back of my mind and you posting this brings it closer to the front. Ha ha! I wanted to try a Walther LGU too and that stills hangs back there with the SIG. My next purchase will most likely be a scope. Well, maybe pellets first since I’m down to only 2 partial tins of JSB 18s. Now if I could just win the lottery I would open up an airgun SUPERSTORE with everything for people to come and try before you buy. I’d be so rich that I wouldn’t care if the business made money or not, it would be mainly for airgun fun. Ha ha ha!

Multi shot Break barrel Airguns seem to be working well. When are the HWs and Diana’s going to get on board. I would love a fine quality multi shot!

Actually that would be another great path for a fine maker to do. Something that is more streamlined in its appearance compared to the Gamos that are out there. How about a break barrel revolver type multi shot but in a long gun. The magazine could be like a cylinder that could be removed or not. Hope that makes sense.

🔶 OK, here's what I'd get excited about and would seriously try to scrape funds together for:

▪Recoil-reduced (= hold-insensitive), like a Diana 54/ 56

▪Bullpup, 29" or shorter (synthetic stock)

▪Really quiet (silencing contraptions like silencer and/or shroud must be factored into the 29" length)

▪20—25FPE in .22cal

(I would be happy with 12FPE, but in that case the noise level must come down to "Marauder-quiet". 😊

🔶Otherwise, I guess a PCP easily can get me the excitement that the above characteristics provide — just with a dufflebag full of expensive support equipment and stuff that can and will go wrong.... 😊

Yupp, SIG would be the company to do that.

The others are too bound up with the traditional look, the wood, all that. 😟

The ASP20 broke with much of that in a refreshing way. 👍🏼

Now, there have been some stock makers that sold bullpup conversion kits. But it was still all wood. And still rather long, because it was just an adaptation.
