I have posted a question under General Airgunning on the minimum FPE to humanely dispatch a coyote at 70 yards.

Here is my answer. I hope you will enjoy the footages as much as I had with the experience of my 1st coyote pesting.

Would I attempt to do the same again? May be and may be not, that really depends if I get the perfect condition to repeat.

Thanks.

Alex

@Bob. thanks Bob. If opportunity presented itself again with similar condition, I will be more confident to take the next shot for sure.

@Chuck. Yes, shot placement is paramount. The UK guys have been doing it for years with their 12 fpe for rabbits (Si Pittaway was my favourite). I wasn't nervous before the shot but you could hear my voice was trembling after with the excitement and disbelief that I made the shot.

@ptthere. These coyotes are very bold and fearless according to the owner. They would venture onto the property in broad daylights looking for live stocks. She has chickens, goats and horses on the property. She was very pleased that we had made an impact.

@GWH. It was 33 fpe. 18fpe at the 70 yards mark according to Chairgun. I was thinking of getting the 500mm slug liner to get more knock down power, but I didn't want to mess up the setting/tune I have currently. I managed to hit a 5 shots 1/4" hole at 50 yards with the AA 16gr. Practice and practice, thats how I gain my confidence.

Thank you all for the comments and I am glad you enjoyed the video.

Cheers!

Alex

It was a darn good shot. My buddy lives in a neighborhood & there’s so many one was hit by a car last week. I talked with him yesterday after he’d taken 2 problem Foxes at 67 & 127 yards with one of his dedicated suppressed .22LR set ups. Funny thing is he’s an FFL holder, Gunsmith/machinist with full shop, stock maker, bowyer, on & on. He got me into air guns but he only owns tuned spring guns, a highly modified 40 ft lb .22 Discovery & custom wood Crosman 1377.

It definitely can be done as you showed. Good shooting.

Bone is 40x’s harder than concrete & JSB are really soft.

I was surprised to hear that. Interesting.

Completely counterintuitive, I would have thought it to be the other way around...!

James, do you have some source where I can read about this comparison of hardness?

Matthias

He could be right but in my limited experience concrete usually wins when the two collide.

Bone can usually withstand (up to) 4000 psi of gradual pressure before fracture. The 40x harder than concrete thing is definitely a stretch.

Not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but bone none is fairly soft. I have butchered many large and small game animals and any thing up to a deer skull can be stabbed up to the hilt with a knife. Doesn’t take much effort. Haven’t had much luck stabbing concrete.
