I have two R1's (same thing as HW80) in .22. Mine seem to like H&N FTT, JSB 14's and JSB 18's the best. The classic Crosman Premier Hollowpoint (yes, the cheap big-box store ones) also seem to shoot well for me. Neither of mine seem to like the JSB 15's or H&N Baracuda's very well.
I'd start by trying the H&N FTT's, the Crosman hollowpoints and the JSB 14's to start.
I have to concur with the rest. I have the best luck with the H&N FTT 14.66. The other reason is that they can be ordered 553 554 and 555 head size. All my rifles prefer the 555. One HW80 Hunter an R1 and HW95. None of my magnum springers shoot JSBs very well. Yet all my 12 ft lb rifles usually shoot both very accurate.
Mine does very well with FTT 5.53 head size and 14.3 JSBs....18.1 JSBs are very accurate to but a bit heavy for a springer! Most likely will shorten spring life...
ftt ( or sig sauer crux lead , hatsan supreme , stoeger x-field , beeman fts , cometa .... .. lots of rebadging for these field target trophy pellets, even marksman did it) ... the hatsan vortex pellets are like ftt lights and work very well in many of my different springers.
My vintage R1 loves them JSB Jumbo 18.13 grains, and also H&N FTT 14.66 grains...but it's also not very pellet picky. Just experiment around a little, OP, you may find that your rifle doesn't go with our flow...
