What a difference pellets can make...

Recently bought a FX Royale 500 from another member and decided to play a little today. The upper group is with 25 gr. kings and the lower is the 34 gr. heavies. I repeated the same groups many times. Kings are going 913 FPS and the heavies are going 800 FPS. Guess I'll be buying more heavies. The heavies measure 3/4 in. by 3/4 in. and shot at 50 yards.

Indeed. In my Red Wolf .22, I found better groups with the JSB 18 gr vs the 16 gr.

But Kip at AoA suggested I try some H&N Baracuda Match 21 gr and WOW, they shoot the best in my rifle, by far. I'm a big fan of the H&N Baracuda Match 21 gr pellets now! They seem noticeably better quality than the JSBs, though they are a little more expensive. In this case, I am getting what I paid for!

My experience shooting several tins of both pretty much mirrors yours. A couple of suggestions to try. Try the Air Arms 25.40 grain and try the King Heavy 33.95 Gr MKII. I just got done testing several groups of the std King Heavy 33.95 vs the MKII. I really don't know what the difference is in the pellets, but in my gun, the MKII shoots a consistently tighter group.

Good post.

It is interesting how different pellets work in different guns. My Wildcats love the JSB's. I recently bought some Benjamin Discovery pellets that were on sale. They look beautiful. Nice and shiny, no deforms, etc. BUT wouldn't shoot worth a hoot. However, just got a new Hatsan AT44-10S, and of all the many pellets I have, it likes the Discovery pellets! Go figure?

No doubt pellet choice can make or break your accuracy. And it seems really noticeable at longer distances. I remember I picked up some of those crossman destroyers for my Mrod when I first got into pcp airguns. For me they shot like garbage. Never had any issues with the hollows or domed but those destroyers were a$$. Since then I have switched over to jsb, h&n or predator. I still use crossman hollows or domes from time to time though.

Those are MKll I am using. Never bought any of the original style. I think I may try to bump the speed up to around 850 and see how it does.
